After India gained freedom by breaking the shackles of slavery, it went ahead to become a part of the global democracy club. And to be part of a group, one has to adapt to the good and bad of the group. The West presented itself as a society encompassing all the good qualities, be it liberalism and equality among others. Indians invested totally in emulating the same. However, instead of modernisation, Indians got westernised. The ‘Englishfication’ of the Hindi Film industry is a prime example of that.
Manoj Bajpayee questions missing Hindi
Manoj Bajypee, is an institution in himself. He has delivered noted performances in projects such as Satya (1998), Shool (1999), Gangs of Wasseypur. The seasoned actor, who stole hearts through The Family Man, has spoken on the status of Hindi language in the Hindi film industry. As per Bajpayee, Hindi language is being side-lined not just in the film industry but in society as well.
The 47-year-old actor asserted that the entertainment industry “is no different from society”. He said, “Everyone who is coming into the industry, I would say 90-95% of them, only write in English. It’s an unfortunate thing.”

However, to counter this, Bajpayee has devised the best plan. He has made a rule that he only accepts scripts of films written in Devnagri.
He said, “There are very few of us who demand that our scripts be written in Devanagari. I refuse to read anything else. If it is written in English, it is returned back to them. It’s not like I don’t know English. I know the language, but as artistes, we are expressing or we need to express ourselves in Hindi (on screen), so it should be in our knowledge of writing, reading and speaking. In fact, reading [scripts] in Hindi should definitely be there.”
The actor also said that we are failing in the role of teachers too, as we are not being able to inculcate passion for our own language.
Pankaj Tripathi first sounded the bugle
Pankaj Tripathi, the brilliant actor who got his long due from Mirzapur series, was the one to sound the bugle. About Bollywood films not working at box office, Tripathi said that the Hindu film industry needs to treat its writers better as writing is the soul of any film. He also advised budding writers and production teams to invest at least 1 or 2 per cent of the total budget in writing.
Reflecting on the failure of recently released films, Tripathi said that he is not sure about the reasons, but the content in mainstream Hindi cinema makes him worry.

First Urdufication, now Englishfication: Bollywood has failed to hold the core
The American Film industry is referred to as Hollywood, as it is located in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles, USA. In order to blindly emulate it, the Hindi Film industry started calling itself Bollywood.
Further riding on the western bandwagon, Bollywood wilfully ditched the Hindi language, the prominent identity of the industry and was served onto a golden platter to Urdu-English inflicted script writers and directors. The Hindi film industry was then hijacked by the Islamo-leftist lobby and impact was being seen in the forms of films they produced.
Urdu became the language to convey love. That also made Urdu shayaris a part of pop culture. English became the language of class. The ones who were well educated would walk English and talk English. English became the language of communication in Bollywood’s award functions as it represented class and secluded the elites from the commoners. This in turn contributed in making English a skill, a class, rather than just a medium of communication and Hindi, our matrabhasha was deliberately side-lined.
Hindi is an emotional bridge that has the potential to connect the layman with cinema. Hindi film industry needs to respect the basics if it wants to ensure its existence in the idustry.
The feedback of the cinema lovers fell on deaf ears and the Bollywood, how it refers to itself, is nearing the doomsday due to the same. If the feedback of the inside legends like Manoj Bajpayee and Pankaj Tripathi are also paid no heed, there is nothing that can save the Bollywood from going extinct.
