Himanta Biswa Sarma is turning Bir Lachit Borphukan into a national phenomenon and rightly so
Share on FacebookShare on X

400th birth anniversary of Lachit Borphukan: There is a famous African proverb that aptly fits on the perceived history Indians have been taught so far. It says that until the lions have their own historians, the history of the hunt will always glorify the hunter. The perennial stream of Indian civilisation has been gracing humanity even after relentless onslaught of hordes of invaders and bigoted barbarians courtesy of endless birth of LIONS.

These mighty warriors with their unparalleled valour held Indian civilisation high. They foiled the evil ransacking and CONVERSION plans of the invaders. The society is fortunate enough that time has come to LIONISE Indian history. Thanks to the emergence of real historical facts and positive push from society, the young generations are getting to know the valours of these brave hearts who graced India with their supreme sacrifices.

Assam to mark the 400th Birth Anniversary of the mighty Ahom General Lachit Borphukan

The Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been a vocal critic of the current history syllabus being taught in school curriculum. He has time and again raised his support to rewrite Indian history which gives due respect and credit to mighty Hindu warriors like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Baji Prabhu Deshpande, Raja Chhatrasal and Ahom warrior Lachit Borphukan among others.

Taking a lead forward in this step, he has announced that the Assam government will hold celebrations to mark the 400th birth anniversary of Lachit Borphukan on 24th of November.

Assam CM Sarma also informed that his government has planned to hold a seminar and exhibition in New Delhi on November 23 and 24. He claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah will also participate in these remembrance events in New Delhi on the 400th birth centenary of the ferocious Ahom General.

Further, CM Sarma also stated that he has written several letters to Chief Ministers of all states and UTs to incorporate a chapter on Ahom general Lachit Borphukan in school history books. He assured that his actions have started to bear fruits as he has been getting favourable responses from state CMs.

Additionally, CM Sarma also said that NCERT is changing its curriculum and it may start to reflect this change in the new academic session that is post April-next year.

Apart from these announcements, Assam CM Sarma took to twitter to announce an open essay writing competition on the heroic life and achievements of Lachit Borphukan. The state government has also launched an official app and portal for this open competition.

Mahavir Lachit Barphukan was an iconic warrior who had fought for his motherland and dealt a devastating blow to the Mughals.

— Himanta Biswa Sarma (Modi Ka Parivar) (@himantabiswa) October 26, 2022

Earlier, in August 2022, Assam CM Sarma had announced that the state government is preparing a feature film on Bir Lachit Borphukan.

Celebrating the legacy of Ahoms

Additionally, the Assam government will also commemorate the sacrifice of the martyred soldiers who fought bravely against the Mughal tyrants of those times. The Himanta Sarma government has planned to build a War Memorial in respect of these sons of the soil. It will have a 100-foot-tall Hengdang (Ahom Sword) at Alaboi, Kamrup.

Notably, in 1669, the Ahoms led by Chakraddhaj Singha fought a significant war against the Mughals. In this war alone around 10,000 Ahom soldiers led their lives to save the motherland from the onslaught of Mughal bigots. The brave hearts of Ahom kingdom repelled Mughal attacks more than Seventeen times and never allowed them to make inroads in the North-Eastern region. The bigoted Mughal tyrants shivered at the mere mention of Ahoms or their battle tested sword, Hengdang.

The towering legacy of Ahoms Commander-in-Chief Lachit Borphukan

The Mughals who wanted to Islamise India with the power of their sword and sadistic ways were humiliated at the hands of spirited Ahom warriors at least 17 times. Even after having lesser resources at their expanse, Ahom kingdom thwarted the Mughal invaders thanks to the able warrior skills and leadership of Commander-in-Chiefs like Lachit Borphukan.

Lachit Borphukan was himself a son of Momai Tamuli Borbarua, the first Borbarua (Governor of upper Assam and Commander-in-Chief of the Ahom army). He was trained in humanities who was well versed with Hindu scriptures. He was a gifted commander who led from the front. He served as Soladhara Barua (scarf-bearer), chief of the Stable of Royal horses and Commander of the Simulgarh Fort. For his leadership quality, he was finally appointed as the commander-in-chief of the Ahom army.

Under the able command of Lachit Borphukan, the spirited Ahom army drove the thronging Mughal army out of the western half of Assam. His name and the sight of his dreaded Hengdang was enough to send shivers down the spine of the Mughals. The valour and chieftainship of Lachit Borphukan is unparalleled.

However, for their petty reasoning, the leftist distorians tried everything possible to restrict the celebrated war hero within the confines of Assam only. For a large part of our independent history, the legendary Ahom warrior remained an unknown figure for the rest of India. But with his relentless efforts, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma is making sure that the warrior becomes a national phenomenon and young generations form an iconic image within their mind of the mighty Ahom warrior with as much ease as they feel in remembering Maharana Pratap and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
