Bollywood superstars have slowly started to realise the changed reality of Hindi cinema industry. This is evident from the changed and lamenting tone of the so-called Perfectionist Aamir Khan or from the pragmatic decision to release Akshay Kumar-starrer Cuttputlli over the OTT platform. The audience’s wrath has brought these superstars from their ninth cloud down to the ground. The Bollywood cabal which was riding high horses is now paying dearly for its incessant attack on traditions and cultural practices of Hindus and a whole other lot of propaganda things in the name of Cinematic liberty.
Another remake, another disaster
Akshay Kumar-starrer Cuttputlli was recently released on Hotstar. It is a Hindi remake of the highly-acclaimed Tamil classic ‘Ratsasan’. Cuttputlli is directed by Ranjit Tiwari with Rakul Preet Singh, Chandrachur Singh and Sargun Mehta in the supporting roles. It is a murder mystery that revolves around the protagonist Arjan Sethi. He is an aspiring writer who enters into the Police Force by circumstances. The story shows how he solves several gruesome crimes in his own ways.

Bollywood has ruined one more South Indian film, #Ratsasan, with its remake Cuttputlli!! The original is one of the finest Indian thrillers. The Hindi remake is downright rubbish.

It is reported that Hotstar paid a hefty Rs 135 crores to get the telecast rights of this movie. However, this movie should be a classic case study on how to mess up an awesome script. The original film Ratsasan was one of the finest crime thriller movies ever made. The masterpiece Ratsasan was later adapted into Telugu as well. But the Hindi remake starring Akshay Kumar is pathetic to say the least. It doesn’t live up to the expectations and begs the question as to why such a bad remake was attempted at all.
The reasons for its inevitable doom
First of all, Akshay Kumar has not done justice to his character. He is portraying a character in his own typical Akki style, which plays against the prime necessity of the character arc. The supporting cast is a bunch of obscure actors, all of whom fail to create a strong impact on the audience and couldn’t keep the audience hooked with the story line.

Second, Background Music (Bgm) is the main hook that keeps the audience up on their toes and creates a suspense which is must in such crime thrillers. This movie lacks any of this which fails the movie badly. To add insult to injury, the placement of songs at the wrong moments of the movie breaks the rhythm and throws the audience off balance and sways away from the main story plot. Such insane placements of songs disturb the storyline and pace of the movie.
Third, the movie has made some changes with the original story plot, which backfired badly for the movie. The story lacks the seriousness of a crime thriller and has needless light moments which defeats the purpose of a crime thriller movie.

All in all, it is a terrible remake which disappoint audiences and forces us to ponder on the point that why there is so much hurry to release half-baked movies in quick succession. Akshay Kumar is missing the x-factor and his great acting skills that he portrayed in numerous hits like Rowdy Rathore, Padman, Toilet – Ek Prem Katha and several other movies. However, for the last past year or so, he is giving flop after flop. Be it Raksha Bandhan, Samrat Prithviraj, Bachchhan Paandey, and now this awful remake Cuttputtli.
The audience and cinema industry has changed for good. Now, star-driven crappy movies tank badly while content-oriented movies like The Kashmir Files and Karthikeya-2 perform stupendously. The erratic and arrogant behaviour of Nepo kids on top of worse performances have added more worries to Bollywood than it can handle. This has made them go bonkers with Arjun Kapoor being prime example who threatens the audience rather than looking inwards.
However, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar should be lauded for taking a wise decision to release this awful Hindi remake of the highly acclaimed regional masterpiece Ratsasan over the OTT platform. The pathetic remake would have been a disaster at the box office. The OTT release has saved grace for Akshay Kumar as movies on OTT may click on some later day when Bollywood does worse than this and the audience finds some leisure time to kill.
