The Congress party reached its zenith in the 1980s. It was the lone political power house in the country. But since then, it has been on a continuous decline which doesn’t seem to end in the near future. The Azad resignation episode has sent a shock wave in the party which seems to be in a state of shock and confusion. This very well have the potential to start a domino effect that only stops at the complete annihilation of Congress party.
Ghulam Nabi Azad gets the ball rolling
Yesterday, on 26th August, a veteran politician Ghulam Nabi Azad ended his five long decade stint with the Congress party. He addressed a five-page lengthy resignation letter to the Interim Party President, Sonia Gandhi.
In his departing letter, he launched a blistering attack on the “sycophants” working within the party. He took a jibe on the immature behaviour of Rahul Gandhi as well.

He highlighted the immature behaviour of Rahul Gandhi and raked the episode of 2013, when arrogant Rahul Gandhi tore a government ordinance. He blamed this fiasco as one of the major reasons for Congress’ debacle in the 2014 Lok Sabha election.
Former J&K CM Azad termed that “childish” Rahul ended the consultative mechanism in the party. He accused of the party is being functioned through a remote control by Rahul Gandhi and his security guards, PAs.
He didn’t spare the farce that is going on, for the post of Congress President. He made it categorically clear that no ‘proxies’ can restore the party’s legacy. He made a bold prediction that this farce of an experiment is doomed to fail.

Azad stated that the “chosen one”, reportedly Ashok Gehlot, will be nothing more than a puppet on a string.
Adding further, “Unfortunately after the entry of Shri Rahul Gandhi into politics & particularly after January 2013 when he was appointed as VP by you, the entire consultative mechanism which existed earlier was demolished by him”.

Disgruntled Azad stressed that senior and experienced leaders were discarded, while taking important decisions. He lambasted that a new coterie of inexperienced sycophants hijacked the Congress party.
He even mocked the party’s dilapidated state and its ambitions to corner the Modi government through Bharat JodoYatra. He wrote, “In fact, before starting Bharat JodoYatra the leadership should have undertaken a Congress Jodo exercise across the country.”

It seems that every Congress leader has an emergency statement well prepared in case of an exit from the party. This year alone Congress has to go through at least 12 high profile exits.

This has opened upan opportunity for the party leaders to climb the ladder in the party. They are leaving no chance in sycophancy of the Gandhi family and bashing their deserter colleague.

However, the more significant statement was of disgruntled G-23 leader Manish Tiwari. His cryptic statement could be a double-edged sword cutting both ways. It seems that he may want to give a last try for the Congress party to chance its failing course, without openly surrendering before the Congress high command.

However, Congress has become synonymous with chaos and confusion. Not every leader is parroting the same party line, some are hinting that they may be in line for next desertion. Evidently, Prithviraj Chavan came out in support of Ghulam Nabi Azad. He reiterated that the Congress should not have a puppet President.
The desertion from the Congress party is far from over. There is a long list of disgruntled leaders who are standing in defiance of the autocratic behaviour of the Congress high-command. Leaders like Milind Deora, Sachin Pilot, Anand Sharma, Manish Tiwari, Vivek Tankha and other leaders from rebel G18 (G23 after exits) group much-like Raj Babbar, they might also ditch the sinking mother-ship of Congress.
So, it is for sure that the exit of Ghulam Nabi Azad is just the beginning and there are many more who want to be Azad from the tyranny of an immature politician.
