India has grown out of the pathetic times where power brokers could change the shape of the Union Cabinet. Ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office in 2014 things have taken a complete 180-degree turn. Now you can only make an educated guess by seeing the past trends. Still, PM Modi comes out with a surprise and always leaves the political analysts second-guessing. He has proved them wrong every time. Keeping that in mind, we are sticking our necks out and making a bold prediction that Droupadi Murmu may grace her presence in the august house of Raisina Hills.
Rajya Sabha elections and Probable contenders
The Election Commission of India has declared the important dates for the election to the highest constitutional post in the country. The candidates can file their nominations till June 29th. If need be, the Presidential election is scheduled to be held on July 18. As there is a possibility that the ruling government and opposition may form a consensus to elect the candidate unanimously. BJP has entrusted party chief JP Nadda and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to pursue opposition for a consensus candidate.
So far, the opposition has agreed to field a joint candidate. Reports claim that the opposition is mulling the possibilities among a few names in the likes of Sharad Pawar, Farooq Abdullah, and Gopal Krishna Gandhi, the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi. While reports claim that BJP is considering the names of incumbent Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Kerala Governor Arif Mohd Khan, and Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot among others. Many political analysts claim that the BJP may field a tribal or a Muslim as a candidate for the President post.

But let us analyse the reasons why we are emphasising that Droupadi Murmu may be the next President of India.
Vast Political and administrative experience
Droupadi Murmu has served in several portfolios in the BJP-BJD coalition government in Odisha. From 2000 to 2002 she served as the Minister of State with independent charge of Commerce and Transport. From 2002 to 2004 she was the Minister of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development. She is the first woman Governor of Jharkhand. Droupadi Murmu is the first woman and tribal leader from Odisha to be appointed a governor in an Indian state. She is the only Governor who completed the term of five years in the history of the mineral-rich state, Jharkhand formed in 2000.

Role model for Women Empowerment
The most significant change that the Modi government has brought is the development of Women voters. It was wrongfully construed that the female voters follow the males of the family and can not sway the political landscape. With the successful delivery of dozens of Women-centric schemes like Ujjwala Yojana, DBTs, and Izzat ghar, BJP has broken this myth and made a consolidated Mahila vote bank. So Droupadi Murmu may be the candidate who cements this policy of the party in the grandest manner possible. As She is a living embodiment of women’s empowerment. She has been a crusader for the rights of women and has vast experience that can enrich the President’s post.
She is educated
Droupadi Murmu has studied at the Rama Devi Women’s College, Bhubaneswar. With her at the helm of affairs in the President’s office, the saffron party may highlight the importance of education in Scheduled Tribes that is currently not at par with other communities. The Union government has been trying to give a strong philip to education among the tribal communities. For that, the government has already committed to setting up 750 Eklavya Model residential schools in tribal areas. Representation of the tribal at the topmost office in India will motivate tribal youths in the left-wing affected areas to shun undemocratic means and prosper through the route of education and hard work.
Political Signaling
The BJP with its development model has been successful in breaking the caste barriers. It has made a significant vote base in the OBC and the SC community. But it has not achieved that level of political success in the tribal areas. So one of the tallest tribal leaders in the country becoming President will empower them politically and may result in good fortune for BJP in upcoming elections.
As we have compiled the data of the last two assembly states elections in some states.
State (assembly strength) | ST reserved seats | BJP seats in 2nd last assembly election | BJP seats in last assembly election | Composition of ST in the state and no of seats they influence |
Gujarat (182) | 27 | 11 (2012) | 9 (2017) | 14% (60 seats) |
Jharkhand (81) | 28 | 11(2014) | 2(2019) | 27% (sizeable influence on all seats) |
Madhya Pradesh (230) | 47 | 59(2013) | 34(2018) | 21.1 (84 seats) |
Same scenario is there in Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Maharashtra where ST community can be one of the deciding factors in seiling the fate of the elections. So the BJP would want to change this downward trend of assembly seats in Tribal areas. The party can woo over the large tribal community by appointing the First ever tribal to be the President of India.
As aforementioned, She ticks all boxes that the NDA may be looking for at this moment. That is why we believe that with her vast experience she will trump other candidates and may swear as the new President of India.
