The Congress party has stepped in with a ‘revolutionary’ decision to approve the ‘One family, One ticket’ rule, the question here is why they didn’t step in with such a decision earlier?
CWC’s ‘One family, One ticket’ rule
It took three days of ‘brainstorming’ for the Congress Working Committee (CWC) to give its approval to proposals for organisational reforms like implementing the One family, One ticket rule. The Udaipur Nav Sankalp Shivir declaration has been implemented by the CWC during its meeting headed by party chief Sonia Gandhi.
Notably, ‘Nav Sankalp’ is “a road map for wide-ranging reforms in the party organisation to make it battle-ready for the next round of assembly and Lok Sabha polls.”
If the reports are to be believed, under the one family, one ticket rule, no person can hold one party position for more than five years, thereby creating an opportunity for the young blood. It decided to provide 50% portfolios to those below 50 years of age at all levels of the organisation.
However, there’s an exception. The sons, daughters and other relatives of Congress leaders can also contest elections only after they have worked for the party for at least five years.
Sources confirmed that the CWC will soon set up a small political advisory group in order to help the Congress president to take appropriate decisions on organisational and policy issues. However, the resurrection of the Parliamentary Board mechanism is yet to take place.
Quite convenient for the Gandhi family
The recent decision of the working committee has been taken in accordance with the convenience of high brass and the Gandhi family. You see, the Gandhi family can never afford to give up ‘Dynasty politics.’ How can they, right? After all, they are the ones who introduced nepotism in politics. It won’t be wrong to claim that only the first family is responsible for promoting nepotism in any area.
The ‘One family, one ticket’ rule is no exception and has been approved only after ensuring that the Gandhi scion does not have to suffer because of the decision.
Rae Bareli has been a traditional Congress bastion. Interestingly, in 2019, it was the only seat that Congress managed to win out of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in UP. However, with Sonia Gandhi as the face of the Rae Bareli constituency, it could have probably won the constituency at least in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. But Rae Bareli has already rejected Sonia Gandhi and she would not contest in the 2024 elections.

Coming to Priyanka Gandhi. While she went around the clock to campaign for the party in the recently concluded assembly elections, she refrained from fighting any election herself. That is the thing about her. Priyanka Gandhi will not contest in the upcoming elections too.
So, who’s left? It is only Rahul Gandhi. The mother-daughter duo has seemingly ‘sacrificed’ the opportunity for their son and brother respectively. However, there’s a catch. The loophole in the rule introduced allows them to fight elections. Yes, you heard it right.
We’ve mentioned above that those who have worked for the party for more than five years can contest elections. What a coincidence!
Thus, the recent development to introduce the ‘One Family, One Ticket’ rule makes it quite evident that it is very clever of Gandhi Family to stop other political families from growing.
