The recently concluded assembly elections of Uttar Pradesh announced another term for Yogi Adityanath and the mandate forced the Akhilesh Yadav led alliance to sit out of power for the next five years. During the elections, several defections happened that garnered the attention of the media, one such was of Aparna Yadav, the ‘bahu’ of the Yadav family, who joined the BJP defying her family. After Aparna Yadav, it seems that Shivpal Singh Yadav is all set to become the next Yadav who will exit from ‘pariwarvaad.’

A family feud within the Samajwadi Party
Samajwadi Party was established by family patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav along with his younger brother Shivpal Singh Yadav. But the association could not last for long as Shivpal Yadav who helped SP expand its base was feeling left out. The feud deepened after Akhilesh Yadav took charge and finally in 2018 he floated his own party Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party-Lohiya (PSP-L) after falling out with nephew and SP supremo Akhilesh Yadav.

Well, in the wake of the assembly elections Akhilesh Yadav succeeded persuading his uncle to form a coalition and the end result was that Shivpal Singh Yadav himself contested on a Samajwadi Party ticket in the assembly elections of 2022.
While Akhilesh Yadav succeeded in mending fences with his uncle, the daughter in law of the Yadav family, Aparna Yadav switched sides and landed in BJP’s court.
Shivpal Yadav may go ‘bahu’ Aparna’s way
There are wide speculations that Shivpal Singh Yadav may be the second Yadav to align with the BJP after he met CM Yogi Adityanath at his CM’s official residence on Wednesday. The 20-minute meeting has sparked the debate of the chacha following Aparna’s route.
PSP-L patriarch Shivpal Singh Yadav’s meeting with CM Yogi Adityanath has raised eyebrows as it happened in the backdrop current feud with nephew Akhilesh Yadav.

It is well known that after a brief truce, sharp differences cropped up between Akhilesh and uncle Shivpal Yadav. The strain deepened after Shivpal Singh Yadav was not invited to the legislature party meeting, in which Akhilesh Yadav was elected as the opposition leader in the legislative assembly.
Though Shivpal Yadav met Akhilesh Yadav later but decided to stay tight-lipped by calling it a “mere courtesy meeting.” He later added that he has faced enough humiliation and is not ready to bend anymore. Shivpal felt humiliated as he was reduced to just an ‘alliance partner,’ even after contesting the Assembly polls on a Samajwadi Party ticket. Not to mention, he not only contested on an SP ticket but was also the star campaigner for the Samajwadi Party.

The political meaning of the meeting
By the way, after the meeting, several speculations are doing the rounds. As it was meant to be, after the recent tussle between the uncle-nephew duo.
Some political pundits believe that after facing humiliation from his nephew, Shivpal Yadav may switch sides and land in BJP’s court. There is a probability that Shivpal Yadav’s PSP-L may join the NDA alliance. Another speculation is that after being disrespected by the previous alliance partner, Shivpal Yadav may look for a better alliance partner in the BJP.
While some political pundits are looking at this meeting in the backdrop of upcoming MLC and Rajya Sabha elections. There are chances that while BJP may nominate Shivpal to Rajya Sabha, his son might be handed BJP’s candidature from his father’s bastion i.e., Jaswantnagar.
How Shivpal Yadav’s card unveils is a matter of time, but one thing is confirmed, SP supremo Akhilesh Yadav failed at making up with his uncle. Also, after Shivpal Yadav drifts away from the alliance, other alliance partners will be forced to question the credibility.
