Career of S Vijayadharani

Former President of the Tamil Nadu Magalir Congress, Vijayadharani (6 Aug 2015-22 Jan 2016). She was named General Secretary of the All India Mahila Congress on March 4, 2016. In 2016, she was re-elected to the Tamilnadu Legislative Assembly by a large margin, putting the ruling AIADMK under her control for the second time.

Jayalalithaa lost only one vote out of 234 in her seat and spent ten years as the Chief Whip of the Party in the Assembly and a member of the Privilege Committee. The first and foremost member of the Assembly to introduce English as a medium of instruction in Government Schools in Tamilnadu, as well as the first to introduce a Private Member Bill for Prohibition in the State and Rehabilitation of People Affected by Alcohol Consumption.

The State Assembly established the 50 percent reservation for women in local body elections in response to her demand. She is the Assembly’s voice for the underprivileged and disadvantaged. She is a Tamil and English orator. She is an attorney who works in both the Supreme and High Courts.
