On the contrary, Congress is appeasing Muslims to encash maximum votes from the community. Despite the locals in Kumaun opposing Muslim encroachment, the love affair of Congress and Muslims is far from over.
Congress promises to build Muslim University in Uttarakhand
Congress leader Harish Rawat has offered to open a Muslim University in the state if he gets elected as the Chief Minister. In a purported video, Aqeel Ahmed who belongs to Sahaspur can be seen claiming that he has taken back his nomination as 12 of his demands have been approved by the former CM and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat.

Uttarakhand BJP posted a video of Aqeel Ahmed in which he can be heard saying, “I am ready to support Aryendra Sharma to fight elections from Sahaspur constituency. I have no problem as Harish Rawat ji and Devendra Yadav has agreed to my demands. Rawat ji has promised to construct a university for Muslim students in Uttarakhand. I don’t want anything else.”
Muslim encroachment in ‘Devbhoomi’
The influx of Muslims from neighbouring states and the subsequent problem of land encroachment in Uttarakhand are increasing rapidly. A report suggests that the Ministry of Home Affairs by the security agency has marked three areas of Kumaon as sensitive. A dramatic change in demography has been witnessed, all thanks to the regime.
The Government had stated earlier on September 24th, “Due to unprecedented rise in population in certain areas of the state, the demography of those areas has been majorly affected. And due to this demographic change, members of a certain community are forced to migrate from those areas. Also, there are possibilities that the communal harmony in those areas may be disturbed.”
The tools such as converting Hindus into Muslims through coercion or love-Jihad have been the main weapons for the attempted demographic change.
Slowly, after registering themselves in the state’s population register, people from the special community have been usurping lands owned by Hindus. Other than usurping the land from the landowners, unused and vacant land owned by the government is encroached upon by establishing a tent-like structure, which is then fully occupied in a few years with a permanent structure. Due to the presence of hundreds of families on encroached or usurped land, the government had a tendency to grant them legitimacy.
BJP’s crackdown on the Muslim encroachment
While the Muslim encroachment was flourishing under the Congress regime, BJP’s crackdown on the same has helped them gain the trust of the Hindu population in the region.

The Pushkar Singh Dhami government had decided to form a committee that will be enquiring into the illegal usurping of land by people of a particular community. The kind of strategies and laws it has implemented to weed out the threat of radicalization is commendable.
And thus, Congress supposedly will be left empty-handed after the elections.
