He made his directorial debut in 2015 with the horror movie Demonte Colony, which earned positive reviews from reviewers and audiences. At the box office, it was declared a smash hit. Imaikkaa Nodigal, his second film, was a box office success.

R Ajay Gnanamuthu wrote and directed Demonte Colony, a 2015 Indian Tamil-language horror thriller film. Arulnithi plays the lead role in the film.
