Owaisi plays Azam Khan card against SP as Akhilesh goes Hindutva mode

  • Recently, in a blow to Samajwadi Party MP Azam Khan, the Yogi government has reclaimed more than 70 hectares of land from Jauhar University.
  • Soon after the government went on to reclaim the land, SP supremo Akhilesh Yadav chose to silence himself and not defend his party member.
  • In a move to establish rapport with Muslim voters, the Owaisi also said that he wants the minority community to have a strong voice in the state assemblies and Parliament to champion their cause.

With the Uttar Pradesh government taking over the land of Mohammad Ali Jauhar University in Rampur that belongs to Samajwadi Party MP Mohd Azam Khan, Yogi is all set to grab the maximum vote share of the state. While Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav has gone all numb and silent in the matter, AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi has come out in support of Azam Khan to defend him.

Recently, in a blow to Samajwadi Party MP Azam Khan, the Yogi government has reclaimed more than 70 hectares of land from Jauhar University. Azam Khan, who is currently in jail, is the president of Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar Trust. However, the government’s action came after the Allahabad High Court dismissed a petition filed by Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar Trust against proceedings initiated by the administration to take over the land of the university.

Tehsildar (Sadar) Pramod Kumar told ANI, “The High Court had rejected an appeal against the eviction process. Today, we have come here to take possession.”

Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal, while dismissing the petition said, “It is a case where a large part of the land has been purchased as well as a certain part of land belonging to tenure holders and gram sabha has been encroached upon by a former cabinet minister of the state for establishing an educational institution pursuant to an Act which has come up in the year 2005.”

The Mohammad Ali Jauhar University Act, 2005 was enacted by the state government to pave way for the construction of the university. Furthermore, the permission to acquire 400 acres of land against the ceiling of 12.5 acres was also granted with the imposition of certain conditions. For the trust failed to abide by those conditions, the state government went on to take action against it.

The court observed, “In the present case, permission for transfer of land in excess to 12.50 acres was granted solely for establishing an educational institution. The establishment of a ‘mosque’ was against the permission granted on November 7, 2005. Thus, the Trust violated the conditions that clearly provided that in case of violation of any of the conditions, land excess of 12.50 acres will vest in the state government after affording opportunity of hearing.”

Soon after the government went on to reclaim the land, SP supremo Akhilesh Yadav chose to silence himself and not defend his party member. However, AIMIM chief, Owaisi, in a move to appease the Muslim community have been sympathising with Azam Khan to grab the vote share.

During a press conference held in Lucknow, Owaisi had sympathised with Azam Khan and said, “What should I say about him. For the circumstances he is surrounded by, I will just pray to the almighty that he gets well soon.”

Earlier, AIMIM’s Uttar Pradesh unit president Shaukat Ali had also said the party was ready to welcome jailed Azam Khan as well his family members into the party fold.

While Owaisi prayed for the wellbeing of Azam, he, at the same time, accused Akhilesh Yadav and his party of dreaming to keep Muslims as their slaves. He also attacked the Samajwadi Party president to ask, “Are Muslims your slaves?”

In a move to establish rapport with Muslim voters, the AIMIM leader also said that he wants the minority community to have a strong voice in the state assemblies and Parliament to champion their cause. He had alleged, “SP and BSP have only sucked your blood.”

Earlier reported by TFI, Asaduddin Owaisi, had requested to meet Azam Khan, who is in jail on the charges of forgery. He had also revealed that the former Samajwadi Party government had stopped him 12 times from visiting the region.“When the Akhilesh Yadav-led SP government was in power in UP, I was stopped 12 times from visiting Purvanchal. I have come now. I have allied with SBSP chief OmprakashRajbhar. I have come to nurture this friendship.” With his request to meet Azam khan, Owaisi gave a clear hint that he is eying for SP’s vote bank.

On the contrary, the Khan family doesn’t seem happy with Akhilesh Yadav because the latter made very little effort for the release of Azam Khan in the last year. In fact, Yadav hardly raised the issue after February, when Azam Khan surrendered and was sent to jail.

Moreover, icchadhari Hindu Akhilesh Yadav is currently using the Hindutva tag to encash the vote share of Hindus of UP. Terrified of the power of the Hindu vote bank, he is trying to learn the art of wooing Hindus.

However, with the AIMIM hogging a major chunk of the Muslim votes to play Azam Khan card against Samajwadi Party, which would have otherwise gone to the latter, is a crisis like no other for Akhilesh Yadav.
