It seems that a Delhi court is all set to bring the curtains down on the death of Sunanda Pushkar as the honourable court is all set to pronounce its verdict on the sensational case on April 29. It is pertinent to note that Congress MP, Shashi Tharoor is an accused in the case of the death of his wife.
Reserving its order in a case related to the death of Sunanda Pushkar, the court has stated that it will pronounce its verdict on April 29 with the prosecution asking the Court to frame the charge of murder in the alternate case against senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor.
Tharoor has been charged by the Delhi Police with abetting the suicide of his wife Sunanda Pushkar. Citing a lack of “definite opinion on the cause of death” by various investigations, Tharoor had earlier urged the court to discharge him.
Tharoor’s lawyer, Senior Advocate Vikas Pahwa while seeking a discharge for his client argued in the court that there was no evidence against Tharoor to prove the offence punishable under either section 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) or 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code.
In fact, on the last day of the hearing, Pahwa presented the statement of the son of Sunanda Pushkar, who categorically stated that Tharoor could not have murdered his mother while also stating that the Congress MP could not even hurt a fly.
For the uninitiated, Sunanda Pushkar was found dead at a Delhi hotel in January 2014 with the power couple pitting at a hotel for the time being as Tharoor’s official bungalow was being renovated at that time.
In September 2019, while appearing before a city court, the prosecutor read out a statement of the couple’s domestic help who is a witness in the case and said that Tharoor and his deceased wife fought over a girl named Katy and some Blackberry messages. The prosecutor also went on to state that before her death, Sunanda Pushkar wanted to address a press conference on the IPL issue. According to the prosecutor, she had also said, “I will not leave him [Shashi Tharoor].” The witness had also reportedly told police that a year before her demise, the couple used to fight a lot.

The Delhi Police had also stated before the court that the deceased was suffering mental agony on account of her strained relationship with her husband. As per the police, she had a scuffle with her husband and had various injury marks few days before her death. The police accused Tharoor of torturing his wife which abetted her to commit suicide. The investigation agency also told the court that as per the post-mortem report, the cause of the deceased’s death was poisoning and a total of 15 injury marks were found on her body, including in her forearm, arms and legs.
A long-drawn court battle appears to be on its final legs with all eyes on the Delhi court as it prepares to announce its verdict later this month.
