In the last few months, Jaganmohan Reddy led YSRCP government in Andhra Pradesh and state’s High Court have been at loggerheads with each other, as the court struck down many decisions taken by the Andhra government, calling them unconstitutional.
This has led to YSCRCP leaders issuing threats against High court judges and using foul language against them trying to lower their dignity and threatening them. Now, Andhra Pradesh High Court has issued contempt of court notices against 49 party activists including a sitting MP and MLA.
Bapatla MP Nandigam Suresh and former MLA Amanchi Krishna Mohan were served contempt notice after the High Court took suo motu cognizance, and a bench of Chief Justice J.K. Maheswari and Justice C. Praveen Kumar ruled that YSCRCP leaders are trying to lower the image of Supreme Court and High Court and all this is part of a larger conspiracy to incite ill-will against the honorable judges among the people. “All this shows that there is a larger conspiracy against the judges. It attracts contempt for scandalising and lowering the image of the court and judges,” said the judges in the ruling.
Andhra court has invalidated many executive decisions by the YSRCP government in the last few months, including its pet project to make the English language of instruction in government schools. The court also gave the famous Doctor Sudhakar case- A doctor who complained against the YSCRCP government and was sent to mental hospital- to CBI.
The series of decisions against the YSRCP government has infuriated the leaders of the party and they used foul language against judges in social media posts.
Kishore Reddy, a leader of YSCRP, wrote in a Facebook post, ‘All High Court judges are bastards, they are good for nothing except for sleeping with wives. Let them arrest me and order a CBI inquiry.”
Another leader Chendu Reddy tweeted, ‘All judges shall be cut into pieces,’ and ‘All judges shall be kept in a room and a corona-positive patient should be left with them.’
The YSCRCP government has taken many radical decisions in the last few months and this has led to a tussle between the High Court and the government. As most of the radical decisions were struck down by High Court, the opposition, led by N Chandrababu Naidu, has asked for resignation of the Chief Minister. The High Court’s decisions have given mileage to opposition which has launched an all-out attack on the YSRCP government, bringing them on backfoot.
Many YSRCP leaders have alleged that Court is siding with Naidu and he comes to know about every decision of the court before a verdict is passed by the judges. The social media posts and allegation against the judges has led to bench comprised by Chief Justice serving contempt of court notice to these 49 high- ranking YSCRCP leaders.
