‘Take action, he is in Dubai,’ A section of Indian Muslims are provoking Arabs in UAE to take Sonu Nigam down

Sonu nigam, Dubai

Radical Islamists have gone bonkers in their sheer desperation to endanger the lives of Indians abroad, the usual and obvious targets being Hindus, aka, kaafirs. What began as a rabid campaign to specifically target Hindus in the Gulf countries for speaking out against the Wahhabi organization called Tablighi Jamaat, has now taken a more aggressive form, with twitter handles digging up years old tweets from Hindus and reporting them to authorities in cities like Dubai in UAE. Sonu Nigam is their latest target.

Three years ago, Sonu Nigam had spoken out against the usage of loudspeakers for Aazaan by Mosques in wee hours of the morning, hence disturbing the sleep of even those who weren’t interested in the call for prayers. While Sonu Nigam also said the same for temples and Gurudwara’s, Islamic fundamentalists were particularly outraged, for how dare he raise his voice against them imposing their call for prayers, five times a day, by means of large loudspeakers.

Since Sonu Nigam had dared to voice his opinion, as he is completely entitled to in a democratic country like ours, fundamentalists went on to wish that he suffer with throat cancer. The rather more outraged ones even declared bounties on him. After his tweet went viral, a bounty of Rs 21 crore was given on his head by one Rizwan Malik for the same. A maulvi in West Bengal issued a fatwa and announced a prize of 10 lakh rupees for any person who shaves the head of Sonu Nigam. After Nigam had himself shaved his head, and demanded the money, the maulvi refused.

Now, Islamists have dug up corresponding tweets from the singer‘s Twitter account, and have begun reporting them to the Dubai authorities, including the police. This comes at a time when due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sonu Nigam is stuck in Dubai. It must be mentioned that Sonu Nigam had quit Twitter in 2017 itself, post the loudspeaker controversy.

While there were plenty of Islamists baying for the singer’s blood, Twitter erupted in support of Sonu Nigam, and #WithYouSonuNigam became a top trend.

Islamists, both in India, as well as the Gulf nations seem to be enjoying digging up information on Hindus, and then reporting the same to concerned authorities. Mind you, this is not done for mere fun. This is done with the specific intention of destroying the common Hindu’s livelihood in the Gulf, and to also malign the image of people like Sonu Nigam. As an add-on, it is also done with the aim that Arab nations will somehow strong-arm India in the backdrop of frivolous notions of “rising Islamophobia” in the country. The excuse which these Islamists tend to rely upon is this same supposed Islamophobia.

Recently, there has been a rampant augmentation of hatred against Hindus in the Gulf. Ironic, as the same people claim to be victims of Islamophobia in India, even as many of them are not Indian citizens. While the Arab nations look down upon Hindus and other religious minorities, their citizens somehow expect their compatriots to be treated royally back here in India. But here’s the thing, we are an equal society, by law, and therefore, see no difference among people premised upon their religious beliefs. What they, however, will only be satiated by, is the subjugation of all non-Muslims in India, so that we can become a mirror image of the Arabs.

Incidentally, Arabs and Muslims in the Gulf are the same supremacists who look down upon Indian Muslims, and employ them to menial jobs. The sense of pride among the Arabs knows no bounds, and for them to preach to India about religious equality is rather hilarious. But then again, it is not only original citizens of the Gulf who are reporting Hindus to authorities over flimsy issues, but expats from India. These thankless people are ratting out Hindus in the Gulf, since they neither have the spine, nor the wherewithal to do even a fraction of the same back here in India.

Interestingly, it’s not just Sonu Nigam, Gulf and Arab nations are not the biggest fans of using loudspeakers in Mosques themselves. However, uneducated and bigoted Indian Muslim expats, whose only sense of purpose in life is to endanger the livelihoods of Hindus in Dubai and the entire Gulf, are too occupied to notice the same.

Saudi Arabia imposes a number of restrictions on the usage of loudspeakers by Mosques. In Egypt too, the usage of loudspeakers is open for debate (unlike here in secular India, where people might be beheaded for the same). The residents of Dubai can file complaints with the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department if they feel disturbed by the usage of loudspeakers. Other instances have been collated in the thread below by Abhinav Prakash.

The hounding of Sonu Nigam by pastime bigots is a lesson for all. It shows how even a debate on the usage of loudspeakers by Mosques in India can end up threatening one’s livelihood, because hail secularism! It is deeply worrying a trend, that a mere question to the Islamic community for known wrongdoings amounts to no less than ‘Islamophobia’. Intolerance has indeed been on the rise for quite some time, and is seen peaking now. Muslims ought to understand, to ask questions of them is our right, however, for them to label us as ‘Islamophobes’ for the same is criminal ignorance.
