It seems that under the leadership of CM Sarbananda Sonowal, Assam is quickly correcting demographic changes which had been created by illegal immigration of Bangladeshis into the state. It has now been reported that 1672 illegal Bangladeshi families were clandestinely living in Assam’s tribal-dominated district of Karbi Anglong. All of them have reportedly been evicted. This has been confirmed by Tuliram Ronghan, the Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC). He has made it clear that all of them have been evicted.

The influx of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants is undoubtedly a major issue in the state of Assam. While the left-liberal cabal has been continuously criticising the government for its plans to evict the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, the fact remains that it is the local population and the common folk of Assam who are going to suffer because of the presence of illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas in the country and not the intellectuals sitting in their AC rooms and passing inane commentaries on humanity. The difficulties faced by the people of the north-eastern states due to the influx of a large number of Bangladeshis include the loss of employment and business opportunities. These accompanied with the destruction of the natural resources, balance of the society and local culture due to the ever-increasing burden of illegal Bangladeshis, make the issue of the presence of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants a complex problem to handle.
A measure of the extreme demographic changes forced upon the state by the infiltration of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants can be taken from the draft NRC released by the Assam government last year. It had shown 2.89 crores of the total 3.29 crore population of the state to be eligible for inclusion in the NRC. By necessary implication, this meant that a large chunk of the population consisted of the illegal immigrants.
The influx of lakhs of illegal Bangladeshi Muslims into Assam does not only create the issue of demographic trouble and exhaustion of resources but is also an infringement of India’s territorial sovereignty. India being a sovereign nation cannot allow such blatant infiltration of the Bangladeshi immigrants without the authority of law. Therefore, it is a welcome decision on the part of the Assam government to crack down on the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. It sends a strong message to the illegal immigrants as well as their sympathisers. The government has already assessed the situation deeply and now it will move towards taking action against those illegal immigrants who are found to be secretly living in the state of Assam. Finally, under the leadership of present Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal, the state has started taking action against such elements which ruin the demographic balance of Assam. Hopefully, the authorities in the state will continue their crackdown and evict the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
