PM Narendra Modi addressed the nation for the last time through his eponymous radio series ‘Mann Ki Baat’. As evident, he raised the issue of the Pulwama attacks and hailed the families of the aggrieved martyrs, terming them as an inspiration for the nation. He also announced the inauguration of the much-touted National War Memorial, which would take place this very Monday.
However, while he asserted about the importance of the men guarding our nation, he also said something that not only delighted most of his supporters but also left the opposition worried a bit. To quote his address, “To honour and respect the healthy democratic practice, my next Mann Ki Baat address will be on the last Sunday of May.”
Yes, let that sink in. PM Modi has promised to address us in the ‘Mann Ki Baat’, when he is re-elected as the Prime Minister of India, since the Lok Sabha elections will be over, along with the announcement of results, by 20th May in all probability.
This show of confidence was also available during the final session of the Parliament with respect to the current government’s term. So much so that even Mulayam Singh Yadav, founder of Samajwadi Party, hoped that PM Modi returns to address them again at the first session of the Lok Sabha. To quote Mulayam’s address to the Lok Sabha in the last session of the current Parliament, “I want to congratulate the PM that he tried to move ahead taking everyone along. I hope all members to win and return, and you (PM Modi) become prime minister again.”
Besides, PM Modi is no amateur. In 2002, when Gujarat was gearing up for the assembly elections, Narendra Modi, then CM of Gujarat, was facing an opposition that was fiercer and nastier than what we’re possibly seeing right now, all thanks to the ghosts of 2002 riots haunting his government at that time. However, much to their chagrin, Modi led BJP government was re-elected with a thumping majority of 127 seats out of the total of 182 seats. So if he hints at his return as India’s PM in 2019, he actually means it.
Interestingly, PM Modi has a lot of achievements in his kitty that makes him a fitting candidate for the post of PM. Be it making government schemes available without hassles to even the most downtrodden, or reducing the poverty rate with remarkable efficiency, or even giving the armed forces immense power as compared to his predecessors, you name it and PM Modi has done it. It is only a matter of time before the upcoming elections put an official stamp on his promise.
