After causing enough anxiety in voters minds, the upcoming Lok Sabha elections demand voters be aware of fraudulent advertisement and possible dissemination of fake news. These are red flags that are often used in India to manipulate the proceedings of the election.
One such similar case happened in Delhi where a vigilant citizen exposed the malicious propaganda of Aam Aadmi Party. A person named, Nitin Bhatiya, reported that he got a phone call with an impersonator on the other end of the line, claiming to help with voter assistance. The phone call allegedly came from the office of AAP where the caller named, Jatin, accused BJP of meddling the voter lists. In a bid to make it more legitimate, the caller told Nitin that 30 lakhs names have been removed from the voter list by BJP. On questioning about the credentials of the list, he claimed that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has managed to get the list from the Election Commission by the virtue of his political power as a chief minister. The list mentioned in the phone call contained the names of voters whose names have been removed from the list.
When asked if it was mentioned by Election Commission that Nitin’s name had been removed by BJP, the caller gave an unconvincing reply and cited recently held Telangana Elections to prove his point. Nitin asked the caller about the source of his leaked information but the caller was not able to present the required facts. This gave Nitin an edge over him and he lambasted the AAP worker for his petty politics and cheap tactics. He warned him of court trials and further lodged an FIR against the caller and AAP in Dabri Police Station, Delhi.
This clearly showed that once again AAP workers have resorted to ugly practices like hoax calling to malign the BJP and Narendra Modi. Apart from the legal actions taken by Nitin, a similar FIR has been lodged with police against Aam Aadmi Party convener and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by a BJP MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa. He accused the AAP of “misleading” voters in his constituency through lies that their names were deleted because of the BJP but re-listed because of “sincere efforts” of Kejriwal.
In his complaint filed at Tilak Nagar police station on Sunday, Sirsa quoted the name of two voters who got calls from Aam Aadmi Party. He admonished the incidents by calling it a conspiracy to defame him by false representation before voters of his constituency to lower his image before them that their MLA is weak and not capable to protect their fundamental right to vote.
Also last week, a delegation of the BJP’s Delhi unit led by its president Manoj Tiwari had submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission seeking action against AAP over its claim of deletion of names of 30 lakh voters in Delhi, and also over phone calls being made to voters by AAP volunteers defaming the BJP. The matter has reached to both the Election Commissions and Police and voters of Delhi await justice.
