A few days ago, Twitter’s C.E.O, Jack, visited India. During his visit, he met women journalists and appeared for a photo with them carrying a placard that displayed “Smash Brahminical Patriarchy”. The left-wing women, who are crying out to destroy the caste system in India, are proudly sharing this photo in social media. It is time for Jack to know the kind of Brahminical Patriarchy that exists in Tamil Nadu, the southern state of India.
In March 2018, four of the Dravida Viduthalai Kazhagam (Atheist outfit in Tamil Nadu) members brutally attacked eight Brahmins in Chennai, cut their sacred thread (Poonul) and shouted “Long Live Periyar”. The reason for this attack was told to be the damage of Periyar Statue that happened before this incident. Upon investigation, it was found that people who damaged Periyar statue in Vellore are two politicians, One belonging to the Communist Party (CPI) and the other was an alleged BJP worker. But the Perayist outfits took this as an excuse to beat the innocent Brahmins who had no clue about the incident. Rather taking a political stand against the damage of Periyar statue, is the brutal physical and cultural attack on innocent Brahmins “Brahminical Patriarchy” ?
In March 2015, Dravida Viduthalai Kazhagam members attacked three Brahmins residing at Mylapore, Chennai. Vishwanatha Gurukkal (76), Santhana Gopalan (71) and Ranganatha Iyer (61) they were not only injured but their sacred thread (Poonul) was also cut. Then, the 76-year-old Vishwanatha Gurukkal who was walking from temple to his house was assaulted by a group of 10 to 12 members of the Dravida Kazhagam. They beat him up and threw away his sacred thread. They kept yelling ‘Periyar Vazhaga’ (Long live Periyar). When the elderly Brahmins don’t have their basic freedom to visit a temple and walk peacefully on streets of their own land, is it “Brahminical Patriarchy” ?
Then the, 71-year-old Santhana Gopalan was attacked by a gang of Dravida Viduthalai Kazhagam cadres when he was way back to his home at West Mambalam. During this caste frenzy attack, the sacred thread of Santhana Gopalan was cut. In another attack the 61-year-old Ranganatha Iyer who went to Parthasarathy Temple and was returning home in the evening was assaulted by an unidentified gang who then threw away his Poonul. A 12 year old boy was also a victim for this caste hatred. When the elderly and kids are assaulted in the name of caste, is it “Brahminical Patriarchy”?
In December 2006, a well-organized petrol bombing was conducted at the famous Sirama Samajam (Ayodhya Mandap) at West Mambalam. Two of them were seriously injured. After the Pooja at 3.30 pm, the front door of the temple was locked. A group of 15 men, armed with acid and petrol bombs arrived. The men shouted, “Don’t leave anyone who is wearing Poonul and who has applied namam on his forehead. Smash every one of them”. The gang then threw the bottles filled with acid and petrol on the hall of the temple complex. The fire broke out in the hall immediately and idols were set on fire.
Two petrol bombs were thrown inside the shrine and one petrol bomb was thrown on the street. Then the mob attacked the shopkeeper who was selling sacred thread, dharbai (grass used for rituals) and other Pooja materials. The shopkeeper was seriously injured. Similarly, Murali, who was selling flowers at the entrance of the temple, was attacked. The sadist mob then attacked him with a scythe. After about a half-hour of the continuous attack, the mob fled the scene. Priests, shopkeepers and flower sellers are attacked to infuse caste hatred in the secular India, is this an act of “Brahminical Patriarchy”?
In March 2006, the Dravida Kazhagam members entered Sri Raghavendra Swamy Math in Erode, shouting the Periyar slogans, attacked the priest and damaged the idol of Lord Sri Rama and attacked the mutt. The Vinayaka statue in Sankarapuram was raided by the Dravida Kazhagam group. Ramesh Iyer of Perambalur was also attacked by the Dravida Kazhagam members.
These attacks are only a few. The countless attacks and the daily intimidation and abuse of Brahmins in social media, especially on “Twitter” has been going on in Tamil Nadu for decades. Will Twitter’s Chief Executive Officer, who bid on Smashing Brahminical Patriarchy, also voice against these kind of caste atrocities against Brahmins that happen every day in Tamil Nadu?
