Days after the Maharashtra Police arrested members of Elgar Parishad who were planning to assassinate Prime Minister Modi comes another big revelation. Police while investigating the case have procured a letter which reportedly has Digvijay Singh’s number in it.
In the letter dated 25th September, 2017, one ‘Com Prakash’ purportedly tells one ‘Com Surendra’ that Congress leaders were “very much willing to assist” in their efforts to “intensify nationwide protests using students”. The letter allegedly mentions a cellphone number that ‘Com Surendra’ can contact “in this regard”. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Pune, Suhas Bawache has confirmed to Zee News that the number in the letter belongs to Digvijay Singh.
The Pune Police are now planning to question the veteran Congress leader in this regard. Earlier in the month of September, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had also accused Digvijay Singh for his alleged connection with Maoist outfits.
In his tweet on 3rd September, ’18 Chouhan said, “The alleged connection of Congress leader is a matter of concern. He has made irresponsible statements regarding the matter in past as well. The Congress Party should conduct a probe into the matter and should sack him from the party.”

Digvijay then further challenged CM Chouhan as he said, “I knew you will ask this question. I am prepared to answer. Everyone has my number and Bhima-Koregaon was not a Naxalite movement. Why don’t you arrest me if I have links with Maoists?”
Pune police said, ‘Com Surendra’ is a reference to Surendra Gadling, a Nagpur-based lawyer who was arrested in June. ‘Com Prakash’ is one of the top CPI(Maoist) commanders. The Pune Police have already arrested five so-called ‘activists’, in the case which was started as an investigation into the Maoist links to the Elgar Parishad meeting on 31st December, ’17, which led to violence at Koregaon Bhima the next day, wherein one person was killed and several were injured. These five accused are Rona Wilson, Surendra Gadling, Shoma Sen, Mahesh Raut and Sudhir Dhawale. They were also cons pirating for Prime Minister Modi’s assassination and now have been chargesheeted with Unlawful Activities Prevention Act under the Indian Penal Code.
Earlier in the month of August Congress Party President, Rahul Gandhi also showed his support to the accused of Bhima Koregaon, as he wrote, “There is only place for one NGO in India and it’s called the RSS. Shut down all other NGOs. Jail all activists and shoot those that complain”.

Rahul Gandhi’s support to the accused and now police verification of Digvijay Singh’s mobile number goes on to show that how Congress supports Urban Naxals and their direct connection with them. This is the same Congress which in 2006, used to describe Naxals as “the single biggest internal security challenge ever faced by our country,” by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
In November 2013, in a counter-affidavit filed by the UPA government in Supreme Court, it had said that ‘academicians and activists in urban centres had come to control ‘mass organisations’ organically linked to Maoists under the cover of human rights’.
Intensifying the attack, the UPA government had even said ‘these fronts are organically linked to CPI (Maoist) and noted that these cadres are ‘in many ways more dangerous than cadres of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA)’.
Congress’ stance on the Naxal proceedings is not only contradictory but dubious as well. The fact that Digvijay Singh was referred to as “a friend” is a screaming testimony to his connection with Maoists. The ones who earlier claimed these people to be dangerous, are now hailing them as activists and accusing PM Modi of suppressing their voices and curbing their freedom of speech.
