Despite all the unfair criticism, chief minister Biplab Deb is relentlessly taking the state of Tripura on the right path and correcting many of the wrongs committed by the communists for several years. The communists had been preaching the ideals and tenets of communist leaders like Lenin and Marx for decades. The immediate casualty were the local leaders and heroes whose significance was constantly undermined. In fact, Communists thrive on undermining local leaders and extolling the Communist leaders like Lenin and Marx. Statues of Lenin which had mushroomed across Tripura are a prime example of that.
However, now things are changing under the present era of Biplab government. On 16th october, he unveiled a statue of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, who is known as the architect of Tripura. The Manikya kingdom had ruled the state for more than 800 years. This is not for the first time that the incumbent state government has revived the legacy of this local hero. Earlier, the state government had announced that the airport in Agartala will from now on be named after the last ruling king Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur. The Tripura chief minister tweeted that 37 lakh citizens of our beloved state are forever indebted to Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya, the Architect of Modern Tripura, while announcing the unveiling of the statue of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya.

Maharaja Bikram is known as the architect of modern Tripura and is given credit for building the first airport in the state before the state acceded to the Union of India in 1949. It is said that the planning behind the present day state is attributable to the initiatives taken during his rule. He is also credited with having pioneered land reforms in the state. The Congress working president who also happens to be the grandson of Maharaja Bikram supported this move taken by the BJP government and said, “Renaming the airport after my grandfather was already in BJP and Congress manifesto. Chief Minister Biplab Deb had personally assured me and I am glad that he fulfilled his promise.” The fact that even the Congress has to support this move goes on to show that chief minister Biplab Deb is taking the state on the right path and correcting several wrongs which had been committed in this state in the past.
Incidentally, the statue of Lenin had been earlier brought down in the state closely falling BJP’s victory in the state elections which ended 25 years of communist rule in the state. It symbolises in a way the end of tyrannical and ideologically radical leftist rule in the state for several years that has been replaced by those who believe in nationalism and those who represent the people and aspirations of the people of Tripura.
Biplab Deb deserves all the credit for ensuring that the state is rid of obnoxious communist propaganda. He is now excluding the likes of Lenin and Marx from the history and legacy of Tripura. And it is the correct thing to do since these foreigners have never had a stake as far as the interest of Tripura is concerned or contribution in its making. It is welcome how the BJP government is finally celebrating the authentic legacy and history of the state. The state is no longer prone to ideological propaganda and is finally moving in the correct direction.
