During an interview, Tejashwi Yadav- son of fodder scam convict, Lalu Prasad Yadav- said that he will not get married before his ‘elder brother’ Chirag Paswan, son of Ram Vilas Paswan. Tejashwi Yadav said, “Chirag Paswan is coming next. He is elder to me. He needs to be asked this question first.” He also added, “If he gets married, I can tell at home that big brother is married, now get me married as well.”
At the first sight this statement looks innocuous but behind it there is Tejashwi Yadav’s subtle political maneuvering. Chief of Lok Janshakti Party is an ally of the incumbent NDA government and is a respected Dalit leader from Bihar. Tejashwi’s ‘bhai-chara’ stunt was nothing less than a political proposal to the LJP chief. Tejashwi Yadav, along with the Congress, and other non-BJP allies and non-BJP parties of Bihar wants to form a grand-alliance against the BJP in the state. His ambitions to do so would get major boost if the LJP divorces the NDA and decides to go with the grand-alliance camp. Ram Vilas is an influential Dalit leader. His party won 6 Lok Sabha seats in 2014 general elections with 6.40 % vote share. In a state like Bihar 6 percent vote share is enough to change the outcome drastically in favor or against of someone. He might have made these offers keeping in mind the fact that Ram Vilas Paswan is notorious for turning the sides. However, this time Ram Vilas Paswan looks fully committed to the alliance. In August, he announced that his party will highlight the pro-Dalit works done by the BJP. His son is also confidant that PM Modi will be the Prime Minister again in 2019.
However, one should tell Tejashwi Yadav that Chirag Paswan is the one who convinced his father to join the NDA camp. In recent times, Chirag Paswan has become more popular than his father. Having said that the ‘bhai-chara’ displayed by Tejashwi is nothing but a desperate attempt and political maneuvering to create friction in the NDA.
Chirag Paswan, in response to the question, said that his father will decide when he will get married and to whom. He further added, “”It is true that in India culture the younger brother has to wait for the older one but if he takes too long, the younger brother can carry on”.
As far as marriage of Tejashwi is concerned then he should quickly get married. He is considered Bihar’s most eligible boy. He recently received around 48,000 marriage proposals.
