The killing of BJP workers in West Bengal has become a ritual since the party became a serious contender to Mamata Banerjee’s rule. TMC seems to be on killing spree of BJP workers. Mamata Banerjee and her party supporters’ authoritarian streak were on full swing during the West Bengal Panchayat elections. It seems not much has changed since then. The dead body of one more BJP worker was found from the lake in Shaktipur village of Murshidabad. 54 years old, Dharmaraj Hazra’s body was recovered from the lake with his hands and feet tied with a rope.
BJP’s district president (north) Gouri Shankar Ghosh alleged that TMC goons have killed Hazra. Ghose stated that, “Hazra is a member of the BJP’s 56 Shaktipur Mandal Committee. He was receiving threats from Trinamool-backed goons since the panchayat elections for supporting the BJP. On Sunday, they killed him and consigned his body in a lake.”
BJP President expressed condolence with Hazra’s family and also slammed TMC in his tweet. He tweeted, “TMC shames humanity, yet again. Another BJP karyakarta killed in the most barbaric manner. In Mamata’s regime, West Bengal has become an epitome of violence & brutality. Entire BJP stands firmly with Dhormo Hazra’s family in this hour of grief.”
Just a few days back, Amit Shah had addressed a massive rally in Purulia which had sent the message that despite the TMC’s intimidation and violence, the BJP will continue with its march in West Bengal, BJP isn’t going to back down. Purulia is the same district which nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister, Abhishek Banerjee had vowed to make “opposition-free district.” Barely Two months ago, two BJP workers were found dead in West Bengal’s Purulia district.
These regular killings of the BJP workers are a message to the BJP to stop trying to make inroads into West Bengal but more than that it is a message to the people of the state that if they dared to go against the ruling party then they will also be brutally killed. Other parties who are silent on the killings of BJP workers, should speak now otherwise next would be the turn of their party workers.
George Orwell has said, “There is something wrong with a regime that requires a pyramid of corpses every few years.” Democracy is dying a silent death in West-Bengal every day but media and intelligentsia is just a mute spectator to this silent death and marching totalitarianism. Before it gets too late, the Bengali people should unite against the tyrannical government of Mamata Banerjee otherwise no one would be left to speak for them.
The people of Bengal can put an end to the tyrannical rule of TMC and Mamata Banerjee also knows it. This is why the goons of her party are killing the BJP workers of Bengal. It’s not just the BJP workers who are being killed, it is the people of Bengal who are paying the price for opposing a tyrannical regime. Her party is not only against the BJP but also against the people of Bengal. If Bengal can bring three decades of communist rule to an end then they can also do the same with the TMC, even quickly.
