Subramanian Swamy is a living nightmare for Nehru-Gandhi family. He has successfully unmasked various misdeeds of the dynasty in the past. He dragged the Gandhis to the court in National Herald case. The mother-son duo is now out on bail. The decline of Congress party began with the Subramanian Swamy highlighting the inconsistencies in the system of spectrum allocation in 2008. Now, Subramanian Swamy is not letting the Gandhi family to live in peace. He recently made a statement which would be giving sleepless nights to Rahul and Sonia Gandhi. Swamy said that Rahul Gandhi will not be able to contest 2019 General elections if found guilty in the defamation case in which Rahul Gandhi had accused the RSS of complicity in Mahatma Gandhi’s murder.
The Nehru family scion, Rahul Gandhi who comes from a family which ruled India for decades, was today forced to appear before a local court in Bhiwandi in Maharashtra where the charges under sections 499 and 500 of the IPC have been framed against the Congress President. This must have been very humiliating for him. The judge read out the charges and asked: “Do you plead guilty?” The Congress president replied, “I plead not guilty.”
He appeared before the court in connection with the defamation case filed against him by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) over his comments at a rally before the 2014 General Elections where he blamed RSS for Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination in 1948. He had accused that, “RSS ke logon ne Gandhiji ko goli mari aur yeh log Gandhiji ki baat karte hain. (Members of RSS shot RSS and now they talk of Gandhi).” Rajesh Kunte, an RSS worker had filed the case against Rahul Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi refused to apologize for his comments and today, he is facing the consequences.
While speaking to Republic TV, the BJP leader and the Rajya Sabha MP, Subramanian Swamy said, “He should be jailed for it. To accuse someone of murder when he or she has nothing to with it, and specially an organization which is being volunteered in by millions of people… There is no reference of the accusation in the FIR of the murder of Mahatma Gandhi, and not even in the court judgments. There is no base other that Jawaharlal Nehru’s short ban that Sardar Patel lived in (sic).” Subramanian Swamy, elaborating about the punishment, further added that “It is a prescribed method of 2 years which means he will not be able to contest the Lok Saha elections if he is convicted, even if he goes and appeals and the appeal is pending (sic).” He further added, “He will be arrested and produced in court to face theses charges, and then the court has to decide whether to give him bail or send him to jail.”
If it happens then it would be a huge embarrassment to Rahul Gandhi who is not new to embarrassments. Moreover, Subramanian Swmay’s own National Herald scam case against Gandhis has been fast-tracked, and has to be completed within a year. If he is found guilty and gets convicted in that as well, then also he will not be able to contest the elections. There is precedence of this in past where people who have been convicted were barred from contesting elections like Lalu Prasad Yadav and Hardik Patel. Subramanian Swamy is hanging like Sword of Damocles over the heads of Gandhis.
