Paresh Meshta, a Hindu youth who participated in the demonstrations against the killing of RSS workers had gone missing along with another person following the outbreak of a communal clash in the Sirsi town but two days later his body was found floating in a lake, barbarically killed in the Honnavar region of Karnataka on Dec 6th. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who was touring the district allegedly ensured that the news of Paresh’s killing was announced only after he had left the region. The police initially had condoned it off as a case of drowning and even Home Minister had expressed that it was a natural death even before any autopsy was conducted.
The post mortem report was in alignment with the Congress ministers and said that there were no visible injuries on the body. But it is intriguing to note that the CM and his ministers along with the police have in the past given such judgmental announcements even before any proceedings had begun which is what makes the case suspicious. They have declared that it is a communal flare up by the BJP and Sangh workers even when they have failed to identify and announce the killers of MM Kalburgi and Gauri Lankesh till date! The killings of DK Ravi, DySP Ganapathy and 20 plus workers of the RSS workers that are yet to see the light of justice are still fresh in people’s memory but the Congress has unabashedly retained its tainted minsters and stood by the PFI giving themselves a clean chit as the only logical response to the many allegations they are guilty of.
While they absolve themselves of all the sins, the gory borings on Paresh Meshta’s body cries to tell another tale of horror and unthinkable brutality that was there for all to see on the social media. It was pointed out by the BJP leader Shoba Karandlaje and Ananth Kumar Hegde who have been vehemently vocal about the falling state of law and order under Siddaramaiah’s rule. A journalist of India Today who reported on this matter has been receiving brickbats and threats of facing an FIR, for carrying out this story. Even the victim’s father and local news channels are alleging foul play in hushing up the matter as the body allegedly bore marks of brutal assault. But in spite of the brazen details staring in their face, the police initially chose to call it a casual death! It is this indifference or insensitivity or a lack of a moral conscience under political obligations that has triggered chaotic scenes in the Sirsi town where angry protests forced the Siddaramiah Government to handover the matter to the CBI. Because the people have lost faith in an unbiased investigation or action from the state government.
It is a matter of grave concern for netizens of Karnataka when the law and order body of the state is under political grips, rendering the police forces incapable to act on its own where brazen crimes seem to be getting political patronage and those who do not fall in line are cleared out of the way by way of transfers, suspensions, demotion, defamation or even death. The BJP is taking out a rally against the continuous killing of Hindu activists in the state and the Congress sees no moral obligation to answer tough questions posed to them as to why jailed criminals from the radical groups like PFI were let off and why there has been a splurge in the killings of Hindu activists ever since then? But Congress in their unapologetic form is quick to pass the abhorrent communal buck onto the BJP while the BJP blames them for minority appeasement politics. But amidst this melee of misrule and dirty politics it appears that no justice can ever come to the victim’s family that has lost their son.
Not even one out of the 20 odd murder cases of Hindu activists in Karnataka has seen the light of justice so far! The delay in handing over cases to the CBI after evidences were allegedly sunk is a sentiment that finds resonance amongst the people.
The Congress for all their divisive Bhagyas they have extended so far should remember that no last minute Mandir visits can ever save them in the 2018 elections! While the JDS is flaunting a poster of Farooq Abdullah in its campaigns to woo the Muslims, the Karnataka BJP is struck with motor mouth impulsive leaders who cannot quite differentiate between a political strategy and a social media pitch!
The deplorable polity of divisive hatred substituted for votebank politics by power thirsty political parties like the Congress, JDS and their offshoots by shaking hands with the Communists and separatists seem to drag Karnataka in the Kerala way. But the larger question is, is Siddaramaiah’s Congress really so incapable of seeing through the mood of the people that in their eagerness to counter the opposition they are getting counterproductive by siding with the Anti-India forces? Or is it that the stronghold of the Congress party is already besieged by anti-India forces where the likes of Siddaramaiah are leased out as constitutional laborers to ensure and engineer unrest in the country to keep us divided forever?
