Anita Dewan was raped, brutalized and murdered 27 years back, but the case remains hidden as it can upset the political equations

Anita Dewan - 1990 bantala rape case

1990 Bantala rape case : Anita Dewan

Haven’t heard of 1990 Bantala rape case or Anita Dewan? Never heard this name, no? Forget her name; most of us don’t even know what happened with her that reminds us of the brutality the young physiotherapy intern Jyoti Prakash Singh suffered on the cold night of 16th December 2012.

If hypocrisy was a human being, she would’ve puked at the shamelessness of the so called Indian intellectuals in her own art. The pseudo liberals, in reality the anti Indian gang, claim to be the custodians or the watchdog of the ideals of Indian democracy, but their work is a very anti thesis of the same.

They cry for injustice to the so called hapless victims of 2002 Gujarat carnage, but conveniently duct tape themselves on the plight of the poor Kashmiri Hindus and the Sikhs, who’re yet to get their share of justice. They would shred the government to pieces on the alleged injustice to Bilqis Bano, a victim of the savage anarchy that followed the Godhra carnage, but would freeze on the mere mention of medical officer Anita Dewan the victim of 1990 Bantala rape case, whose sordid tale would remind the Indians of a Nirbhaya before the Nirbhaya of 2012!

If there is one thing that the pseudo intellectual gang, endorsed by the ‘deep state’ of India is pretty good at, it is the art of hiding their own sins under the carpet, no matter how barbaric or cannibal that may look to a rational eye.  Like one great man said, ‘What kills memories is not deliberation of tyranny, but systematic ignorance’ What should have been a catalyst in destroying the remnants of the poisonous communist ideology in India is sadly buried under the pages of history.

Cut to 1990 Bantala rape case

Cut to 1990 Bantala rape case. The blazing hot summers had wrecked the whole of India. While the luckier ones sped off to hilltops, the others had to manage with coolers, fans etc. Into this scenario, three medical officers were assigned a case in Bantala, some 20 km. away from Kolkata. Their names and departments were as follows:-

  • Anita Dewan, Deputy District Extension Media Officer, West Bengal Health Department
  • Uma Ghosh, Senior Officer, West Bengal Health Department
  • Renu Ghosh, representative of UNICEF & WHO, New Delhi

On the evening of 30th May 1990, the trio had reached Bantala and at 6:30 p.m. in the evening, had crossed the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass, when a group of 4-5 CPI [Marxist] workers attempted to stop their car near the party office. Sensing their malicious intent, the driver Abani Naia, tried to divert the car to safety, but failed to do so. Instead the car overturned, and a mob of 20-25 party workers surrounded the car. Dragging Abani out by his collar, the bloodthirsty monsters brutally assaulted him, smashing even the driver’s private parts to smithereens. The petrified ladies were soon abducted, dragged to a nearby paddy field and brutally raped.

Anita Dewan, who tried to resist them, was brutalized and murdered. The car was also set ablaze

At around 11:30 p.m. in the night, the four bodies were sent to Calcutta National Medical College, upon being perceived by some pedestrians. Later, it was discovered that Uma and Renu were actually alive, and sent to SSKM hospital, along with the brutally injured driver Abani, who later succumbed to injuries on 4th June 1990.

If you think this was it, let me tell you something that will make you puke in disgust on the very mention of the same:-

  • The driver Abani Naia suffered 43 wounds in all on his body, including wounds from blunt, sharp and heavy weapons
  • The slain officer Anita Dewan’s corpse reminds us of the exact injuries that Jyoti P. Singh, or Nirbhaya suffered in 2012. Her face was smashed, her shoulder bone broken, and her private parts slashed.
  • The lady doctor, who was examining Anita’s dead body, fainted on seeing a medical torch stuffed in Anita’s vagina.

Yes, you heard that right. The barbarism that the mob executed on that poor medical officer Anita Dewan plunged low to that extent that a torch was stuffed into her vagina! Probably the only criminals who were more barbaric than the ones who laid hands on Anita Dewan were the rapists of lab technician, and unfortunately a destitute Kashmiri Hindu, Girija Tickoo. But that is for another day.

But what was the motive behind this barbaric murder of Anita Dewan? Was she the woman who knew too much? Probably so, because the real reason behind this ghastly rape and murder further smashes open the skeletons hidden in the cupboard of one of the worst elected governments in the history of India.

As written in his conversation with Bengali intellectual Sumanta Banerjee, ex director of Asian Development Bank, Shri D. Bandyopadhyay, hints towards a possible role of Anita Dewan trying to expose the dirty game of the Communist influenced local bodies in Bengal, with respect to the allocation of UNICEF funds, allegedly operating under the aegis of the then Chief Minister Jyoti Basu, who oversaw the systematic destruction of the once industrial and cultural capital of India, Kolkata.

As quoted by Shri Bandopadhyay, in 1990 Bantala rape case article:-

“ ………… Ms Anita Dewan, an officer of the UNICEF, detected a huge fraud involving UNICEF funds in some CPI-M-controlled panchayats in South 24-Parganas. When she was returning with some seized incriminating documents, her vehicle was waylaid at Bantala. It was set on fire. The driver was killed. And Ms Dewan was raped and murdered. Her naked body was thrown into a paddy field……..”

Worse, when the 1990 Bantala rape case was reported to the CM, he was said to have infamously remarked, ‘Such incidents do happen, don’t they…Mistakes do occur…..” We probably now know where Mulayam Singh Yadav got his inspiration for his horrible comments on rape. Jyoti Basu, in earnest terms, was a callous and nasty predecessor of the menace that once ruled the lands of Uttar Pradesh.

As expected, the peaceful perpetrators of the ‘liberal’ community were never persecuted for this 1990 Bantala rape case. There was a sham of a trial though, and the accused were soon let off. The two surviving officers, Uma and Renu were thrust into the well of shame and ignominy, while the accused, some of whom had high connections in the West Bengal government, walk freely, even today.

1990 Bantala rape case For 27 years, the soul of Anita Dewan ravages the badlands of Bantala, justice brutally and systematically denied.

Though this was nothing new in the tyrannical rule of Jyoti Basu, since Dr. Subhash Mukhopadhyay [who was the second doctor to have successfully delivered a test tube baby through the IVF technique and was forced to commit suicide for the discovery of the same], yet the case of Anita Dewan reminds us of the neck deep hypocrisy that these so called liberals practice and effectively hide. However, with the brutal slaughter of a calf at Kannur in the name of protest at Kerala, by Youth Congress workers, this anti Indian gang seems to have hit a nail in their own coffin.  It is upto us, to make sure, that the poisonous ideology, which destroyed Anita Dewan and Subhash Mukhopadhyay, is buried to the point that it may never raise its head again.
