Why would the grand old party of India yell Save Democracy in a rally after they find themselves at the heart of a massive scam? Because, it implies ‘Save Us’ stupid. Save Democracy or not but Save us from Modi. Save us from Parrikar. Save us from Swamy, of course.
The Save Democracy rally was held at Jantar Mantar. Its sole motive is invoking Sonia’s famous “I am not scared of anyone” card and also galvanizing the cadre for the long and arduous battle ahead. If Induction of Swamy in Rajya Sabha is any indication, an attack on Gandhi Family is not a taboo for NDA anymore. Save Democracy rally mainly points at BJP’s “Highhandedness” and attempts to “break down the constitutional setup” in India. It aims at cornering over a host of issues including imposition of President’s rule in party-ruled Uttarkhand and Arunachal Pradesh and alleged attempts to destabilise the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh. All of which are perfectly constitutional in my humble opinion.
The speakers consisted of the top brass of the Congress party including Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi, Ajay Maken, A K Antony and of course Sonia Gandhi. Speaking at the Save Democracy rally, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi said:
“To all who are assembled here. Thank you for walking with us today, even in this heat. Modiji talked about ‘Achhe din’ when he came to power. But 50 farmers are committing suicide every day. Almost 40% of nation is affected by drought today & he (Modi) has nothing to say. They destabilised Congress government in Arunachal, removed elected leaders & broke all laws. Whoever talks against Modi ji and BJP, false accusations are made on that person. In the country today, only two people have a say: Mohan Bhagwat and Narendra Modi. False accusations are levelled against those who dares to speak against them.

The Save Democracy Rally was iconic in many ways, because former PM Manmohan Singh chose to talk as well.

Congress is like a flowing river, no matter how many false allegations you level against it, it will not divert from its path. By destabilising Congress governments in Uttarakhand, Arunachal Modiji has attacked democracy. Now they are eyeing other Congress governments.
It is not over unless the Italian Lady sings and she sang too in her characteristic Italindi accent. Sonia asks Congress workers to ‘unmask’ the Modi government in a democratic way. Here’s what Sonia Gandhi said at the Save Democracy Rally:
Modi government trying to destroy roots of democracy. Congress will not buckle under any form of injustice and will take detractors head on. Congress-led governments in Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh dislodged by Modi regime by use of money power. Nothing new for us to fight anti-national elements. Fire is raging in Uttarakhand forests, but nothing could be done as there is no government. We are the people who have given their blood & laid down their lives to protect the basic principles of humanity. No matter how much they try to fight democracy, we will not let you succeed. Life has taught me to struggle, we have faced a lot of challenged. They don’t know what we are made of.
Haider – the movie taught me a new word. Chutzpah. An act of bold impertinence. What Congress did today was an act of Chutzpah. First thing first, Congress doesn’t believe in democracy. They have never believed in democracy. They believe in ascension of throne strictly on bloodline basis. They are nepotistic. Secondly they used CBI and Police to frame Modi in Ishrat Jahan encounter case. They created the whole Saffron Terrorism theory out of thin air. They set unsurpassable records of corruption in 2G, Commonwealth and Coalgate scams. And then here they are champions of a Save Democracy movement. Sheer Chutzpah.
Also, The Hindu reports – Members of the Congress party, including Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, party president Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, were detained by the police on Friday. They were released shortly. Well.
