Did Modi really insult India?

Did Modi really insult India?

Twitter turned into a virtual battleground yesterday. The ones “badly” hurt by PM Modi’s anti-India (Yeah! That’s right) remark were busy trending #ModiInsultsIndia. Memes, funny pictures, random facts, forwards and jokes of all kinds were being traded openly and freely. Someone who stormed to the Indian Political scenario riding on the waves of unwavering nationalism and steadfast loyalty to the motherland had allegedly disgraced his own country, hence, it was a grand jamboree for the anti Modi brigade, many of whom lurk on Twitter. Soon the Pro Modi brigade came out of their slumbers and within a matter of a couple of hours, #ModiIndiasPride became number one trend. A massive win for the Bhakts (as they say).

But what really happened? Modi allegedly insulted India by saying that people were earlier ashamed of calling themselves Indians. The India under Modi is brimming with more optimism and pride. He made this remark while he was addressing Indians in China.

Here is the video of his full speech:

Watch the video 20:00 onwards and decide for yourself if Modi really did insult India? This was what he said “Unless we start believing in ourselves, the world won’t believe in us either. If a mother keeps chiding her child in front of his friends, all day long, the friends will never take the boy seriously. Hence, we need to respect our roots, our glorious legacy and the immense capabilities that we contain”. I tried reading this phrase in active and passive voices, by rephrasing the sentences, by swapping the subjects and the predicates. I couldn’t come to a conclusion that the aforementioned lines mean “Indians were earlier ashamed of calling themselves Indians”. So like most of the earlier accusations, this turned out to be all fart, no facts as well. This trend was a slander campaign envisioned to malign the image of Modi while taking the focus away from the deals made and MoUs passed in his foreign visits. Almost all Media houses got a sure shot winner of a news and without a lot of fact finding. The IEs, The Hindus and TOIs published full page reports.

While in USA and other countries, there is a fair representation of the right wing voice in the media, In India it is the left liberals who outnumber the right wing voices by a huge margin. Almost all of the leading dailies are Left aligned. In USA, There is a Fox news for the NY Times but the likes of India TV and Zee news are no match to the combined strength of The Hindu, The Times of India, ABP, NDTV, The Tribune, Hindustan Times, The Statesman, The Indian Express and more. Hence any news against the right wing ruling party of India gets more coverage than news favoring them. This was one fine example of it.

But it was amusing to see the hypocrisy of the ones trying to shame their PM who in their prejudiced opinions had shamed India. Many of them were AAP followers, a party which has no respect for the status quo, has a sour relationship with Police, selectively hates media and contemplates imposing a defamation suit on them, has a soft stand on Naxalism, has no stand on separatists and radical Islamic terrorism. Some of them were Congress supporters, a party which ruled the nation for 60 long years, set new records of corruption, raised an army of sycophants and as an unrivaled gesture of chutzpah asks the 1 year old ruling party “Why are farmers committing suicide?”

Do you want to know who shamed India or rather who has been shaming India?

The ones who do not respect the system of the nation.

The ones who indulged in massive scams.

And the ones who in spite of being called the fourth pillar of democracy continued printing and broadcasting their prejudiced opinions in place of real news.

I don’t think anyone is commenting about what you’ve quoted. What about this: http://www.pib.nic.in/newsite/pmreleases.aspx?mincode=3

    “छोड़ो यार, डूब गए, कुछ होगा नहीं, अरे भगवान बचाए। पता नहीं पिछले जन्म में क्या पाप किए कि हम हिंदुस्तान में पैदा हुए।“

Looking at this statement I feel it’s completely uncalled for and can be interpreted in many ways – regardless of what he actually meant. These kind of statements doesn’t really be-fit the post of PM, maybe it will for a party president. #Self-Adulation

I don’t think you even *remotely* picked up on the context of what he said. And of course you need to take into account what he actually meant! How the hell else are you going to make sense of it?

      Example:

“You are a horrible, cuntish asshole”
OH MY GOD SO BAD NAUGHTY NAUGHTY

Context: “You are a horrible, cuntish asshole” – said the world to Hitler.
      Not so bad now, eh?

While the above example is pretty primitive, the fact that he sacractiscally made those comments even *further* emphasizes his point.

    • Dhananjaya Sampath says:

Only he knows what he actually meant – neither you nor me. It’s how it’s interpreted by the people that matters. Don’t we all speak keeping in mind how it maybe interpreted. It’s even more relevant for a global leader. It’s time he quit talking like he has election to win and get into working mode as a PM. It’s not like everything has suddenly become rosy in a matter of 1 year. We still have a long way to go. I’d rather he let his actions speak for himself rather than simply trying to get ahead of himself. The way GDP is calculated (I’m not saying it’s wrong), aided by sheer luck in the way of slump in Global Crude Oil prices and low inflation – all of which have helped the growth in the past year so far. It’s looking better than before no doubt.

” These kind of statements doesn’t really be-fit the post of PM ” ?? Really ? So, now a common man has the right to comment, analyze, judge on how (& what) a Prime Minister dresses ? When, Why and for how long is he going out on foreign trips ? How he speaks and also, what he speaks ? What are you, a President ? Feel lucky, well atleast he speaks. He speaks for India. He is busy taking India into new heights, bringing in deals that matter while you think and comment on what he should wear, eat and do! Anyways, do you remember the previous PM or a single sentence he said ? I bet you didn’t.

    • Dhananjaya Sampath says:

you’re alright? did you copy-paste this comment from somewhere else like other Bhakts do? My comment is right above, have a good second look – I never commented on what he eats, how he dresses. If not a common man – who is one of the 31% that’s elected him – who else has the right to analyse, criticise and comment – a president? It’s futile talking to fanatics. I’d much rather have a health debate with someone who appreciates when the PM does good and criticises when he’s not.

    • Shekar says:

Sir, you don’t need to worry and comment what the prime minister says, there are a lot of people to analyse that.
Instead of being a critic about what he said you should first be thankful for what he has done until now.
Its surprising how people in India don’t support their own prime minister.
Why don’t you just elect people who do appeasement politics and keep you happy with nice words and loot lakh’s to crores of money.

@dhananjayasampath:disqus exactly! Thanks for bringing out the “actual language and content used” And he repeated similar words in Korea. Things have been said here, quite clearly and plainly, which needs no interpretation. It might be a mistake, agreeable. but calling it a misinterpretation is nothing but blindness on behalf of Modi Bhakts! Stop making him bigger than our nation, our people. he is the prime minister, not the almighty. He is just one of us. he has been given enough opportunities , lets just wait for him to perform. Meanwhile, continue worshiping the lords. We already have a good number. No need to add another one to the list.

Unacceptable to have statement in any context to feel shame on birth in India
It is ok that he can accuse past situation. But ridiculous to relate with birth!
You the political parties are responsible including BJP, Mr. Modi!
Where you, BJP or RSS have talked a lot rather than doing actual work.
Gujarat is example of undeveloped state where still water and canal work is not done, farmers suicide and Industrialists and Corrupt Politicians are looting from every sector at cost of poor people. Lot of issues with temporary contract workers, Vidhyasahayak and lot more.

    Again, endless and worthless discussion.
But yes, it is true that ModiInsultsIndia again.

The person who promise to reduce corruption, to run case on every daagi MP MLAs of any party, to talk with Pakistan in their language, to reduce prices, for employment and a lot.
It is big Jumla Sarkar. and why not party whose president is ultimately a person who went in prison and facing charges !

Let us see how many more intelligent and creative people run out of country for not to become corrupt!
