What if UPA-III becomes a reality?

Amidst the mounting clamours of NDA coming to power with BJP’s Narendra Modi as its prime minister, I decided to contemplate beyond the obvious (as it seems to most of us).

What if UPA comes back to power? We can’t write them off certainly. 2004 was a catastrophe for a lot of Political pundits when Congress managed to get 145 seat and BJP was condensed to a gloomy 138. And even when the margin was trivial, Congress managed to form the government at the centre by enticing the Left (59 seats) and other parties.

And remember remember 26th of November

The gunpowder, treason and plot

I know of no reason why the Gunpowder Treason

should ever be forgot

Everyone knows that the government completely failed in averting, stopping or even controlling the Mumbai 26/11 attacks. Rahul Gandhi fled away and didn’t even utter a single word. Indian Government did a very poor job in forcing the Pakistanis to bring the handlers to justice. So everyone anticipated the Indian voters to vote Congress out of power. But Congress flabbergasted everyone by winning 206 seats, yeah a change of +61 seats, remarkable indeed.

If left is about ideology, BJP is about passion, Congress is all about political strategies.

Anyway, what I wish to deliberate here is the question that has been haunting almost every citizen of India. What if UPA-III comes to power? Let’s scrutinize the following points:

  1. Rahul Gandhi – Rahul Gandhi will become the Prime Minister of India. Rahul Gandhi is still to show any political acumen, leadership class, oratory brilliance, economic knowledge, defence awareness or diplomatic skills. The coveted PM chair of India will find its most undeserving occupant in Rahul Gandhi. The person who can’t even handle a TV interview can’t handle a nation of 1.2 billion. This is a fact.
  2. Message to Indian Politicians – After 35K crore CWG, 1.76 Lac crore 2G and 1.86 Lac crore Coalgate and numerous other scams, if we still vote the Congress party to power we are sending a clear message to the politicians of India and that is “Hey! Sure we are disconcerted and disturbed by these colossal scams but that in no way means that we will let you go. Keep on pillaging us, you’ll always find us by your side”
  3. Deteriorating Economy – The PM is widely perceived as a celebrated economist who brought the economic liberalization in 1992. The fact however is that it was the sharp acumen of Legendary Mr. Narsimha Rao who paved the path for economic liberalization in 1992 while Mr. Singh merely carried out the orders. Mr. Singh’s colleague in cabinet P Chidambram is another eminent economist but they have shown to the world how great resumes don’t harvest great results every time. With Dollar-Rupee at 1:60(at one point 1:66), Inflation at 6%, Unemployment at 5%, 36th rank in top 100 Corrupt nations, 132nd rank out of 185 countries in “Ease of doing Business” ranking, 65% of Indians surviving of wages less than 120 bucks a day, the economy of India is in complete shambles. With UPA taking the reins in its hand again, we can only look forward to more troughs.
  4. Pakistani Ceasefire violations and Chinese incursions – Last year was a standing testimonial to how our ‘peaceful’ neighbours take advantage of our gullible and forbearing attitude. From ceasefire violations to mutilating dead bodies of our jawans to beheading them, Pakistan tried every trick in the book to infuriate us. The PMO condemned them in strong words and then overlooked it conveniently. Chinese on the other hand decided to jog through the Indian Territory without any permit or visa of course resorting to violence whenever they were stopped. UPA at centre again will fortify the Pakistani and Chinese beliefs that India will continue to be a innocuous target for them.
  5. Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants – Friends in Assam know how illegitimate immigrants from Bangladesh wreak havoc in the state of Assam. The alarming fact about them is that they are all being provided with voter id and ration cards. And a very disturbing trend is that they continue to mushroom in almost every part of India – Gurgaon, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai in particular. The immigrants will keep on flooding the nation if UPA III comes back to power.
  6. Appeasement bills and schemes – If UPA III comes to powers evil bills like Communal Violence Bill which intends to make Hindus a slave in India may see the day’s light. Expect more bills that mollify the “reserved” castes and religious minorities to be tabled in the parliament.
  7. Kashmir – In spite of so many attacks and cease fire violations, Indian Government has been in talks with the Pakistani Government over the Kashmir issue. So if a part of Kashmir is finally ceded to Pakistan, don’t be mighty surprised. Remember Manmohan Singh hinted sinisterly about an ‘important breakthrough’ with Pak PM?
  8. Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh – If a part of Kashmir is surrendered to Pakistan, expect no benevolence from China. It has its eyes on Arunachal and Ladakh from a very long time.
  9. End of Narendra Modi – UPA-III will pretty much finish the otherwise glorious career of Narendra Modi. Narendra Modi is being perceived as the most popular leader of the country currently. He has been hailed as a nationalist, a reformist, a progressive thinker and a leader who can connect to the masses and classes alike. Gujarat arguably is considered as the most business friendly state of India and it has been possible largely because of the foresightedness of Narendra Modi. India is on its back-foot as far as the current financial stats are concerned, what it needs currently is a leader that can pull it out of the slough. With UPA-III, we’ll lose Narendra Modi and that will be an irremediable injury.
