BJP candidate Subhendu Sarkar informed that miscreants attacked him during polling in the Kumarganj constituency of Dakshin Dinajpur. The incident took place during the first phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections under heavy security deployment.
He said he moved across polling stations after receiving complaints that BJP polling agents were being stopped from entering booths. He also expressed that agents faced removal from multiple locations.
Sarkar stated that he visited around 16 polling booths since morning to assess the situation. The confrontation began, he added, when he reached Booth No. 24.
At that booth, he alleged that miscreants attacked him and his team. The situation forced them to flee through open fields along with their security personnel. He also claimed that his vehicle suffered damage during the incident.
The BJP candidate described the episode as a planned attempt to create fear and disrupt voting in the constituency. He further raised concerns over security arrangements, alleging that central forces did not deploy effectively outside polling stations at the time.
Sarkar informed the Election Commission about the incident and sought immediate intervention. The situation, he said, “created an atmosphere of intimidation during polling.”
He further alleged that BJP polling agents faced obstruction at multiple booths before his arrival. He personally intervened to ensure their re-entry into polling stations.
The BJP candidate maintained that these incidents affected the polling process in Kumarganj and urged authorities to take strict action.
