Late-night violence broke out in Jaipur’s Chomu town after a dispute over installing iron railings outside a mosque near the main bus stand. As tensions escalated, a mob allegedly attacked the police team. Mulsim community people started pelting stones on police personnel, which injured at least six police man.
Following the attack, police resorted to a lathi-charge and fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. As a result, the situation was brought under control. However, tension has prevailed in the area since morning, and the locality has been turned into a high-security zone.
Heavy Security Deployment
Meanwhile, police personnel from Jaipur Police Lines, Harmada, Daulatpura, Murli Pura, and Vishwakarma police stations were rushed to Chomu. In addition, the Special Task Force, riot control vehicles, and extra force were deployed. Consequently, the bus stand area now resembles a police camp.
Internet Services Suspended
To prevent the spread of rumours, the administration suspended internet services in Chomu town for 24 hours. Accordingly, on the recommendation of the Jaipur Police Commissioner, Divisional Commissioner Poonam issued the order. The ban will remain in effect from Friday 7 am to Saturday 7 am.
Background of the Dispute
Earlier, as part of efforts to improve traffic flow, stones lying for years in front of the mosque at the bus stand were removed on Wednesday (December 23) with the consent of the local Muslim community. During the process, traffic was diverted from nearby intersections to ensure smooth movement.

However, later in the evening, iron girders and railings were installed in front of the mosque. This move triggered objections and heightened tensions. Subsequently, talks were held late into the night between the police and Muslim community representatives.
Stone-Pelting and Injuries
After discussions, both sides reportedly agreed to maintain the earlier status quo. Therefore, police began removing the girders and railings. This action, however, angered a section of the Muslim crowd, and unrest broke out soon after.
Soon, miscreants from the muslim community pelted stones at police personnel. In response, police used force to disperse the crowd. Despite these measures, six policemen were injured and admitted to the Chomu hospital.
At present, additional police forces remain deployed in the area. Overall, the situation is under control, but security has been tightened to prevent any further escalation.
