Bollywood’s iconic star Dharmendra, lovingly known as the He-Man of Hindi cinema, has passed away at the age of 89. His demise has plunged the entire nation into grief. Dharmendra had been unwell for a long time and was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital for treatment. After a few days, he was brought home, where his medical care continued.
According to an report, Dharmendra breathed his last early today.
Born on 8 December 1935 in Nasrali village, Punjab, Dharmendra’s full name was Dharmendra Kewal Krishan Deol. A towering figure in Indian cinema, he entertained audiences for more than six decades.
Struggling With Breathing Issues
Dharmendra was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on 31 October 2025 for a routine check-up after experiencing difficulty in breathing. His condition worsened on 10 November, prompting his entire family to rush to the hospital. Hema Malini, Sunny Deol, Esha Deol, Karan Deol, Rajveer Deol and Abhay Deol were all by his side.
A Glorious Six-Decade Career
Dharmendra began his acting journey in 1960 with Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere. He later appeared in Boy Friend (1961) in a supporting role. Over the next 65 years, he became one of the most beloved faces of Indian cinema, delivering a string of hits, superhits and all-time classics.

In 2023, Dharmendra grabbed headlines for his onscreen kiss with Shabana Azmi in Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. The scene sparked widespread discussion and became one of the talking points of the film. He later appeared in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (2024).
His Final Film
Even at 89, Dharmendra remained actively involved in cinema. His last film, ‘Ikkis’, is set to release posthumously on 25 December 2025. In the film, he plays the father of Agastya Nanda.
