In a fresh political attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Rajya Sabha MP and former Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal has alleged that former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been allotted a “luxurious 7-star government mansion” in Chandigarh’s Sector 2 under the Chief Minister’s quota.
Taking to X, Maliwal wrote, “After the Sheesh Mahal in Delhi became vacant, Arvind Kejriwal ji has had an even more splendid Sheesh Mahal built in Punjab than the one in Delhi. In Chandigarh’s Sector 2, a luxurious 7-star government mansion of 2 acres under the CM quota has been allotted to Arvind Kejriwal ji.”
Maliwal further claimed that Kejriwal used government aircraft for personal and party-related travel.
“Yesterday, he boarded a government helicopter right from in front of his house for Ambala, and then from Ambala, the Punjab government’s private jet took him to Gujarat for party work,” she alleged.
The MP also accused the Punjab government of misusing state resources for Kejriwal’s personal convenience, saying, “The entire Punjab government is engaged in serving one man.”
Along with her post, Maliwal shared an aerial image purportedly showing a government bungalow complex in Chandigarh’s Sector 2, with an arrow marking the alleged location of the property.
The controversy surrounding Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence dates back to 2024, when the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) submitted a factual report following a complaint by BJP leader Vijender Gupta.
The complaint accused Kejriwal of illegal construction and misuse of public funds at his official residence on 6 Flag Staff Road in Delhi.
Gupta alleged that Kejriwal violated building norms to construct a lavish mansion, referred to as the “Sheesh Mahal,” spread across approximately 40,000 square yards (8 acres).
The complaint stated that government properties, including Plot Numbers 45 and 47 on Rajpur Road—previously occupied by senior officers and judges—and two bungalows (8-A and 8-B, Flag Staff Road) were demolished and merged into the new residence without approval for layout plans, floor area ratio (FAR), or ground coverage.
The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) registered Gupta’s complaint for review on October 16, 2024, and subsequently forwarded it to the CPWD in November for further investigation. The CVC assured that appropriate action would be taken based on the findings of the factual report.
On October 21, Gupta filed a formal complaint with the Vigilance Commission, alleging extravagant spending on the renovation and interiors of the former Chief Minister’s residence.
In his letter to the Chief Vigilance Commissioner, he claimed Kejriwal had spent crores of taxpayers’ money on luxury amenities far exceeding reasonable expenditure limits, raising serious concerns about corruption.
On November 5, the CVC took cognisance of Gupta’s complaint and acknowledged the gravity of the allegations. Subsequently, on December 5, a factual report prepared by the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of the CPWD was submitted to the CVC for further examination.
Meanwhile, the BJP has also hit out on Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal, alleging that former Delhi chief minister is using Punjab government’s resources for personal luxury.
In a post on X, the Delhi BJP accused Kejriwal of preparing a “luxurious 7-star, two-acre government bungalow” in Chandigarh’s Sector 2 for himself, reportedly from the Punjab chief minister’s quota.
Dubbing Kejriwal as Punjab’s “Super CM”, the BJP said that the AAP chief, who pretends to be a “common man,” has built yet another grand Sheeshmahal.
“After vacating the Sheeshmahal in Delhi, Punjab’s “Super CM” Arvind Kejriwal has now had an even more magnificent Sheeshmahal prepared in Punjab. In Chandigarh’s Sector 2, Arvind Kejriwal has been allotted a luxurious 7-star government bungalow spread over 2 acres from the chief minister’s quota,” the BJP posted on X while sharing the satellite image of the said bungalow.
The Delhi BJP unit had earlier released a video showing the interiors of the Flagstaff Road bungalow—featuring a gym, sauna room, and high-end fittings—alleging that crores of rupees in taxpayer money were spent on renovations.
BJP’s Delhi president Virendra Sachdeva accused Kejriwal of hiding the “seven-star resort-like residence” while portraying himself as a common man.
