Congress Stands Exposed: Chidambaram’s Admission Proves Sonia Gandhi Was Running the Show
Share on FacebookShare on X

The Congress, which never misses a chance to spread fake rumours about India’s security operations, stands thoroughly exposed after its own senior leader, P. Chidambaram, admitted what the nation has long known that the UPA government chose not to retaliate against Pakistan after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks because of pressure from the United States and diktats from within. The same Congress ecosystem that questions Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s surgical strikes, Balakot airstrikes, and Operation Sindoor is today confronted with the ugly truth it was they who surrendered to foreign powers when innocent Indians were butchered in Mumbai. From making secret pacts with the Chinese Communist Party to following orders from Washington, it is evident that Sonia Gandhi was acting as India’s “super prime minister” during 2004–2014, while Manmohan Singh remained a silent spectator. Chidambaram’s remarks are not isolated; they fit a larger pattern of weakness and appeasement during the UPA years. From the controversial handling of the Batla House encounter, where Congress leaders openly sympathised with terrorists, to the 26/11 fiasco, where India’s hands were tied, the UPA consistently placed politics above national security.

This weakness emboldened Pakistan’s terror machinery and cost countless Indian lives. While soldiers were laying down their lives to protect the nation, the Congress leadership was more concerned about “international opinion” and the diktats of foreign capitals. No wonder Pakistan continued to sponsor terrorism with impunity during UPA’s decade in power.

Chidambaram’s Shocking Admission

Seventeen years after 26/11, former Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram has admitted that India refrained from military retaliation despite Pakistan’s involvement in the massacre of 175 innocent people. In a recent interview, Chidambaram revealed that former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice rushed to Delhi just days after the attacks, urging the Indian government not to strike back. He confessed that “retribution crossed my mind,” but the decision was ultimately to stay quiet under pressure from the Ministry of External Affairs and international voices.

This startling admission is not just about weakness; it is a direct indictment of the UPA’s foreign policy, which was dictated not by India’s interests but by foreign powers and by certain individuals. By surrendering to pressure, the Congress government denied justice to the victims of Mumbai and gave Pakistan a free pass.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala took to X saying “Who prevailed? Sonia Gandhi? Manmohan Singh via SG? He alludes to how US Secy of State Condoleezza Rice insisted that India shouldn’t react! Why was UPA taking orders from her? Why did Sonia Gandhi prevail over HM?”

The hypocrisy of Congress becomes clearer when one looks at its behaviour since 2014. Every time India has acted decisively against Pakistan whether it was the Uri surgical strike in 2016, the Balakot airstrike in 2019, or Operation Sindoor in 2025 Congress has shamelessly demanded “evidence.” Despite overwhelming proof released by the government, despite international recognition of India’s actions, Congress leaders have parroted Pakistan’s propaganda, casting doubt on India’s own armed forces.

Ironically, these are the same leaders who now allege that US President Donald Trump “intervened” in the 2025 ceasefire between India and Pakistan. The Modi government has made it abundantly clear that the ceasefire followed a direct call from Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO), pleading with his Indian counterpart after India destroyed 11 Pakistani airbases. Yet, Congress continues to peddle lies. It is rich coming from the same party that buckled under U.S. pressure in 2008 and refused to retaliate for 26/11.

The Shadow of Secret Deals with China

If bowing to the U.S. was not enough, Congress also signed secret deals with China. The 2008 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Congress party and the Chinese Communist Party remains one of the darkest episodes in Indian politics. What business does a ruling political party have in signing pacts with a foreign regime known for its hostility to India?

When combined with Chidambaram’s revelations, it paints a disturbing picture UPA was not just weak; it was compromised. Foreign powers had more say in India’s internal security and foreign policy than the Indian people or its armed forces.

Too Little, Too Late

Chidambaram’s admission has rightly drawn criticism from the BJP, which has pointed out that such truth-telling after 17 years is meaningless. “Too little, too late,” said Minister Pralhad Joshi, reminding the Congress that its inaction cost 175 lives in Mumbai and scarred the nation forever. Today, when Modi’s government has given Pakistan the harshest responses in history from Balakot to Operation Sindoor Congress should hang its head in shame instead of questioning India’s military.

Sonia Gandhi’s Congress Stands Discredited

P. Chidambaram’s revelations confirm what Indians already suspected the Congress under Sonia Gandhi chose submission over strength, silence over justice, and foreign diktats over national security. It was not Manmohan Singh who ran India during those years, but Sonia Gandhi acting as a “super prime minister,” prioritizing dynasty over democracy.

By refusing to avenge 26/11, Congress sent a message of weakness to Pakistan and the world. By questioning every Indian military operation post-2014, it continues to undermine the nation’s morale and embolden its enemies.

History will record the decade of UPA rule as one of India’s darkest a time when terror went unpunished, when Pakistan struck at will, and when India’s Prime Minister bowed to unelected authority. Today, as India stands tall under decisive leadership, Congress’s shameful legacy is exposed once again.
