In a shocking and politically charged statement, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has once again stirred controversy. During a recent conference, he said, “We noticed that there is always a reason given for the absence of anti-incumbency or for sudden shifts in opinion polls — whether it’s Ladli Behna, Pulwama, or now sindoor. We saw this pattern, and fundamentally, we believe the elections are choreographed.”
This raises a serious and uncomfortable question: Is Rahul Gandhi suggesting that the Pulwama terror attack — in which 40 CRPF soldiers were martyred — was somehow scripted for electoral gain? Is he indirectly accusing India of stage-managing a deadly attack, while letting Pakistan off the hook?
By clubbing Pulwama, a clear case of cross-border terrorism, and Operation Sindoor, a strategic Indian counter-insurgency, with welfare schemes like Ladli Behna, Rahul Gandhi seems to be questioning not just the government, but the Indian Army, intelligence agencies, and the very spirit of national security. This not only trivializes the sacrifices of Indian soldiers, but casts a shadow over the credibility of India’s military and defence institutions.
Open Threats to the Election Commission Again
Rahul Gandhi has now escalated matters by directly threatening the Election Commission. He said, “If the Election Commission doesn’t provide us information, there will be consequences. Once we come back to power, we won’t spare any EC officials.”
This is not the first time Congress leaders have made veiled or open threats toward constitutional bodies. It shows a dangerous tendency to undermine institutions when things don’t go their way.
In response, the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka sent a stern letter to Rahul Gandhi:
“You are kindly requested to sign and return the enclosed Declaration/Oath under Rule 20(3)(b) of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, along with the name(s) of such elector(s) so that necessary proceedings can be initiated.”
The EC has already clarified that the November 2024 elections were conducted lawfully, and Congress was given a full response in December 2024. Yet, Rahul Gandhi continues to question every facet of the electoral process — first it was EVMs, then VVPATs, now voter lists, and soon, perhaps even the Constitution itself.
The Election Commission has maintained full transparency and has advised that if Congress has genuine objections, they should follow legal channels like filing an election petition — not baseless press conferences.
Rahul’s Claims of Rigged Elections: What the EC and Data Say
Rahul Gandhi further alleged that the BJP never faces anti-incumbency like every other party in a democracy. According to him, “Exit polls, opinion polls, internal polling show one thing. But the final results show the opposite. This doesn’t happen in any other democracy.”
The Congress leader questioned why BJP keeps winning despite anti-incumbency, conveniently ignoring the fact that when governments deliver on governance, people re-elect them. That is how democracy works. Rahul Gandhi refuses to accept that the BJP’s repeated wins may simply reflect voter satisfaction with its work.
Let’s look at the facts:
The Congress rules Karnataka and Telangana.
It is part of the coalition in Jharkhand.
It won Himachal Pradesh previously.
If Rahul Gandhi truly believes the electoral process is manipulated, how does he explain these victories?
Now, he has turned his target toward the voter list, particularly in Bihar. According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), about 65 lakh names were removed in Bihar’s voter list during the recent Special intensive revision (SIR). But this includes:
22 lakh deceased voters
36 lakh voters who shifted
7 lakh new permanent residents elsewhere
These are standard updates, done to maintain a clean and accurate electoral roll.
The ECI clarified that the process was transparent and conducted legally. In fact, it revealed that not a single written objection has been submitted by any political party, including Congress. If Rahul Gandhi truly believes there are discrepancies, why hasn’t he followed due process?
Data Leak? Who Gave Rahul the Authority to Reveal Voter Details?
Shockingly, Rahul Gandhi has now released names, voter details, and alleged discrepancies from the voter list to the public. This raises serious concerns about privacy and data protection.
Who authorized Rahul Gandhi to make sensitive voter information public? Does the Congress party have access to the official voter database? If yes, how?
Publishing private voter information in Public conferences is not only unethical, but could amount to a breach of the law, particularly the Right to Privacy, which is a fundamental right in India. This reckless behavior exposes citizens to identity fraud and targeting, and yet, no accountability has been shown.
By doing so, Rahul Gandhi has opened up another front of irresponsible politics, under the guise of electoral scrutiny
A Dangerous Pattern of Denial and Disrespect
Rahul Gandhi’s recent remarks are not just political jabs, they are deeply troubling assaults on the institutions and integrity of India. By suggesting that the Pulwama attack, a national tragedy caused by Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, was orchestrated for votes, he is not attacking the BJP he is insulting every Indian soldier, citizen, and family affected.
His constant refusal to accept electoral defeat and his habit of undermining institutions — from the judiciary to the EC — shows a worrisome pattern of denial.
India’s democratic institutions don’t need threats. They need responsible leadership and respect for due process. If Rahul Gandhi truly believes in democracy, the way forward is through facts, legal petitions, and parliamentary conduct not vague accusations, data breaches, and threats.
It’s time he realizes: You don’t lose elections because of EVMs, VVPATs, or voter rolls you lose them when you lose people’s trust.
