In a spectacular display of unity and national pride, the streets of Jammu & Kashmir came alive with patriotic fervour as more than 12,000 people participated in a grand Tiranga Yatra in Baramulla ahead of India’s Independence Day celebrations. The highlight of the event was a magnificent 2-kilometre-long Tricolour carried by citizens from all walks of life.
This event is significant from a national interest point of view. Places like Tral, Baramulla among others used to be terrorist hotbeds few years ago. It was only in August 2019 when PM Modi abrogated Article 370 as a step towards greater national integration and countering insurgency.
The rally, part of the nationwide Har Ghar Tiranga campaign being held from August 11 to 15, was led by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who lauded the massive turnout and the enthusiastic participation of the people. Sharing a video of the march on social media, the L-G wrote, “May our beloved and victorious Tricolor fly high in the world! More than 12,000 people joined Tiranga Yatra in Baramulla. Citizens from all walks of life were carrying a 2 km-long Tricolour. Together they marched with heads held high, hearts swelled with pride.”
The rally commenced from Saint Joseph School, winding its way through the heart of Baramulla town before culminating at Showkat Ali Stadium. The route was lined with cheering residents, while the participants chanted slogans and sang patriotic songs, their voices echoing with a shared sense of national belonging.
Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, and Senior Superintendent of Police, Gurinderpal Singh, jointly led the procession, accompanied by ADC Baramulla Syed Altaf Hussain Mausvi. The march also saw the presence of senior civil administration officials, army and police personnel, members of various government departments, students, and local residents.
Speaking at the event’s conclusion, DC Minga Sherpa expressed heartfelt gratitude to all participants, noting that the rally was a testament to the deep-rooted patriotism and unity in the district. “Baramulla has once again shown that our strength lies in our unity. This rally is not just a march, it is a celebration of our shared identity and love for the nation,” he said.
The event stands as one of the largest Tiranga Yatras ever held in the region, symbolizing a powerful commitment to national pride as the country approaches its 78th Independence Day.
As part of the broader “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, commemorating 75 years of Indian independence, the initiative encourages mass participation in honoring the sacrifices of freedom fighters and celebrating India’s achievements and diverse heritage.
