Leftists Block Progress Again: JNU Library Vandalised Over Facial Recognition Entry System

Left groups in JNU have been trying for decades to convert the campus into a playground for political drama, blocking reforms and vandalising property

Leftists Block Progress Again: JNU Library Vandalised Over Facial Recognition Entry System
Share on FacebookShare on X

Once again, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is in the news not for academic excellence or research breakthroughs, but for chaos engineered by the Leftist student politics. The latest flashpoint is the protest outside the BR Ambedkar Library, where students led by the Leftist JNUSU (Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union) have been opposing the installation of a face-recognition biometric gate.

The JNU administration has introduced a new system to ensure only bonafide students of JNU access the already-limited library space. The claim of leftist? That the biometric system is an “attack on privacy and democratic rights.” But the reality is far more tellin, Left groups in JNU have been trying for decades to convert the campus into a playground for political drama, blocking reforms, vandalising property, and ensuring no peaceful environment exists for ordinary students to study.

Why Face-Recognition in the Library?

Acting librarian Manorama Tripathi had cleared the installation, pointing out the urgent need to stop outsiders from illegally occupying seats meant for JNU students. With nearly 8,000 students on campus and only 800 seats inside the library, it has become a daily struggle for genuine students to find space. Adding to this, intruders from outside have been sneaking in something repeatedly raised with the Vice Chancellor.

The biometric gate was a sensible solution: either through smart card punch-ins or face scans. But instead of welcoming the initiative, Left groups led by JNUSU President Nitish Kumar turned it into yet another agitation, they broke the front door glass during the protest, causing injuries to themselves and damage to public property which is, ultimately, taxpayers’ money.

Leftist Politics of Violence

What is shocking is not just the opposition, but the violence. JNUSU President Nitish Kumar himself, along with Manikant Patel, led the vandalism and ended up injured when the glass broke. If the so-called student leader himself indulges in such lawless behavior, how can one expect his followers to behave responsibly?

The administration was forced to call in the Delhi Police when the situation escalated. As many pointed out on social media, calling the police in such circumstances is not “suppression” it is the duty of any responsible authority to protect campus property and students’ safety.

This pattern is not new. For decades, Leftist student leaders in JNU have thrived on creating unrest. From agitations against the national flag, to protests against anti-terror operations, to blocking reforms like biometric attendance, they have shown the same playbook: resist, vandalise, and then cry victimhood.

JNU Is for Students, Not Permanent Protestors

What many ordinary students are asking is simple: why can’t Leftists adapt to norms? Why can’t they let others study in peace? JNU is meant to be a space for students — not for 40- or 50-year-old self-styled “PhD scholars” who use the university as a political retirement home.

Every time reforms are proposed to improve accountability and discipline, Left groups oppose them. Whether it is biometric attendance, identity-based entry in libraries, or restrictions on outsiders, their real fear is losing the grip that allows them to misuse campus facilities for political theatre.

As one Twitter user bluntly put it:
“Those who damage public property should be behind bars, not roaming free. The JNUSU President himself is leading violence. If the leader behaves like this, imagine what the followers will do.”

The video of the protest, now viral on social media, shows clearly who is responsible for the chaos and it is not the administration.

What Next? Time for Strict Action

The ABVP-JNU social media convenor, Satyam Vats, made it clear that most students welcome the biometric initiative. He underlined that the real issue is Leftists wanting outsiders to sneak into the library. He also questioned why public money should be wasted on repairing vandalised property when the offenders are known.

“The college administration gave a complaint and police have registered a case. We met  the college authorities and extended our support to the introduction of these machines and most of the students are also supporting this initiative , as the leftists didn’t get any support they damaged these properties” he said

The demand is growing: JNU must make Nitish Kumar and Manikant Patel compensate for the damage within seven days or face rustication. Delhi Police, too, should register FIRs for destruction of public property and take them into custody.

Enough Is Enough

The truth is simple: JNU has become a hub of Leftist chaos for decades. Every attempt to bring order, accountability, or reform is turned into an agitation. Instead of being centres of learning, spaces like the Ambedkar Library are turned into battlegrounds. Students who come to study are the real victims, while the self-appointed “revolutionaries” indulge in vandalism.

The time has come for strict action. Rustication, fines, and criminal proceedings are the only language habitual offenders will understand. If JNUSU leaders believe breaking doors and opposing reforms is “student politics,” then they should also face the consequences of law. JNU must decide is it a university for genuine students or a playground for Leftist chaos?
