A horrifying hit-and-run incident took place on Monday afternoon in the Green Belt Park area of Jammu, where a scooter rider was intentionally hit twice by a speeding Mahindra Thar. The entire episode, caught on camera, has sparked outrage among locals.
The incident occurred around 2:18 p.m. when the Thar, while trying to overtake an SUV on a single-lane road, swerved into the opposite lane. At that very moment, a man riding a scooty was approaching from the correct side. The Thar crashed into him head-on, knocking him and his two-wheeler to the ground.
Shockingly, within just three seconds of the initial collision, the Thar driver reversed the vehicle and deliberately ran over the man again as he was trying to get up. The victim was thrown back and sustained serious injuries.
What happened next was even more disturbing. The driver stepped out of the Thar, walked up to the injured man lying helpless on the road, pointed a finger at him, and then returned to his vehicle—driving off without offering any help.
Passersby quickly rushed to the scene, assisted the injured man, and transported him to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Jammu. He is currently unconscious and undergoing treatment for multiple injuries.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The Mahindra Thar, which is registered in Jammu and Kashmir, has been seized. While the vehicle’s owner has been detained, the actual driver, who is believed to be someone else, is on the run. A search operation is underway to locate and arrest him.
Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and collecting witness statements to aid the investigation. Meanwhile, locals have expressed shock and demanded strict action against the accused.
Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the local police.
