From Balakot to Sindoor: How Top Hacker Sunny Nehra’s Cyber Intelligence Defeated Pakistan’s Misinformation War
Share on FacebookShare on X

Sunny Nehra not only proved the ground impact of the Balakot airstrike but also proved that the place hit was surely a terrorist camp. While other experts waited for updated satellite imagery, he had found exact location of Kirana Hills blast just from visuals itself.

While Sunny Nehra is globally known as India’s best ethical hacker and a top cybersecurity expert, his work in OSINT (Open-Source Intelligence) also needs to be specially talked about. Sunny Nehra is famous for his OSINT skills on X (earlier called Twitter) and other platforms because he can find the exact place of events and prove it using many smart methods.

What is OSINT?

Sunny Nehra uses complex maths in OSINT based on visuals

OSINT means collecting and studying publicly available data to create useful information. This includes analyzing things like social media posts, public databases, hidden data in leaked documents, darknet forums, domain registries like WHOIS, search engine results, and more.

Sunny has taken this field much further than usual, combining it with deep technical skills. His OSINT work is special because he studies visuals very carefully, checking every small detail, even measuring the angles at which things appear. He cross-checks everything using many different ways. For example, during Operation Sindoor, many people were just guessing where the missile hit in the Kirana Hills. But Nehra found the exact location and confirmed it with many checks, which amazed everyone online. His deep understanding of OSINT tools and methods has led to many big findings that have been very impressive and admired across the global cyber community. At just 29 years old, Nehra has become the top name in OSINT, known for his OSINT Supremacy, and no one dares to question his work. In fact, he is the one who often points out mistakes in other experts’ OSINT work.

Operation Sindoor

During Operation Sindoor, Nehra was the one who correctly found the exact blast spot in the Kirana Hills. His post about this became the most shared geolocation detection OSINT post ever. It was shared by international news agencies, top civil exam coaching academies, defense experts from around the world, and many more.

Besides the Kirana Hills post, he also exposed many fake satellite images that had gone viral during Operation Sindoor. When some Pakistani users on social media said that a BrahMos missile had wrongly fallen in a Pakistani town because of a mistake, Nehra proved them wrong. He showed that it was a Rampage missile instead. He even found the exact place where it hit and explained why it landed there. Other OSINT experts waited for months for updated satellite imagery of Kirana Hills to write their OSINT reports, and they ended up concluding the same things which Nehra had concluded immediately after the blast incident. That shows how ahead he is of other OSINT experts.

Also, when Pakistani users did not accept that the missile parts shown by Indian media belonged to Pakistani missiles, Nehra again stepped in. Using OSINT, he clearly proved the missile parts were from Pakistan. His solid and fact-based study made even the top OSINT users from Pakistan agree with him.

Balakot Airstrike

On the Quora platform, Nehra gave very detailed answers to the questions “Can you provide some authentic proofs of the Balakot air strike by the IAF?” and “Can you show on Google map where exactly Balakot Air Strike by IAF happened?”. These answers are the most viral OSINT-based answers ever. The later answer is even considered a benchmark model for how OSINT work should be done. Like in Operation Sindoor, Nehra also posted many threads on Twitter during the Balakot airstrike to explain important facts and stop false news from spreading. He was the first to correctly find and show the exact location of the Balakot strike. He also proved that the place hit was a terror camp.

Other OSINT Works

Another big achievement of Nehra’s OSINT work was when he found a hacked server of the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha. Foreign hackers had used it to host forums selling illegal drugs. IAS officer Sanjeev Gupta, former head of Digital India, publicly praised Nehra for this. It showed Nehra’s talent in finding hidden crimes on the darknet that normal checks can’t catch. Because of this, the government took stronger steps to protect important systems.

In August 2021, Nehra, along with cyber expert Anshul Saxena, used OSINT to catch a cyber attack planned by Pakistani hackers. These hackers had silently hacked some Indian news channels, and wanted to display some anti-India content on these on Pakistan’s Independence Day. But Nehra shared a timely warning on Twitter, which helped the channels fix their systems. His action stopped the attack. This showed Nehra’s skill in using OSINT to stop live cyber threats.

Nehra also uses OSINT to study malware and track Command and Control (C&C) servers. He has successfully found the servers used by many types of malware and even identified the people affected. This gave important information to the police and other authorities. His full study of Pegasus spyware, including how it changed and its weak points, was one of the first of its kind. Nehra also warned early on, in 2020 and 2021, that Apple’s iMessage was a major way Pegasus could attack people’s phones. This shows how forward-thinking he is when it comes to new threats.

Nehra’s OSINT Twitter Threads: A Goldmine of Cyber Intelligence and Cyber Awareness

Sunny Nehra’s OSINT works are unique

On Twitter, Nehra goes by the handle @sunnynehrabro. His posts are full of useful OSINT and cybersecurity knowledge. His threads are famous for being clear, detailed, and easy to understand, even for people who are not experts. He often mixes OSINT findings with real-world advice. Let’s not forget that he has been rated as top hacker among list of top Indian hackers by reputable publications. This is why people in the cybersecurity field often look to his threads as a reliable learning source. OSINT is also a professional service of his startup Secure Your Hacks for government agencies and corporates.

Sunny Nehra’s work in OSINT and cybersecurity is truly amazing. From uncovering drug websites on hacked government servers to stopping foreign hackers and busting fake news, his work has made a big difference in India’s digital safety. His Twitter threads are not just informative but also inspire others in the cybersecurity field to act. As online threats keep changing, Nehra’s sharp thinking and wide range of skills keep him as a leader in keeping the digital world safe. For anyone who wants to learn about cybersecurity or OSINT, following @sunnynehrabro on X is a must to see India’s best ethical hacker in action.
