What started as a joyous honeymoon in the scenic hills of Meghalaya has turned into a deeply disturbing murder case. Raja Raghuvanshi, a 29-year-old businessman from Indore, was found dead under mysterious circumstances just days after marrying Sonam Raghuvanshi. The incident has since snowballed into a high-profile investigation involving accusations of occult practices, an extramarital affair, and a meticulously planned murder.
Raja and Sonam got married on May 11, 2025, and departed for their honeymoon in Cherrapunji (Sohra) on May 20. Merely three days later, the couple went missing. After an extensive search, Raja’s body was discovered on June 2 near Wei Sawdong Falls — a remote and picturesque spot in Meghalaya. His remains were found in a severely decomposed state, suggesting he had been dead for days.
The police arrested Sonam Raghuvanshi, her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha, and three other men — Vishal Singh Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand — on suspicion of their involvement in Raja’s death. Authorities believe the murder was not spontaneous, but rather part of a premeditated plan hatched by Sonam and Raj.
Speaking to reporters, Raja’s father, Ashok Raghuvanshi, revealed troubling details from before his son’s death. He claimed Sonam had asked Raja to hang a suspicious object wrapped in cloth outside their home to “protect them from negative energy.” Ashok believes this was not an innocent ritual, but part of a broader pattern of manipulation involving black magic or occult practices. The object, he noted, mysteriously disappeared after Raja’s death — raising even more questions.
Following her arrest, Sonam underwent a mental health evaluation at the Meghalaya Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences. Doctors declared her mentally stable, allowing investigators to proceed with full-scale questioning. A crime scene recreation is now being planned by police in Sohra to reconstruct the events and collect further evidence.
All five suspects are currently in police custody and undergoing intense interrogation. Investigators are focusing on uncovering the exact sequence of events and determining if others may have played a role in the conspiracy. Reports suggest Sonam and Raj were in a relationship before her marriage to Raja. Police also suspect that a relative’s bank account was used to transfer money to the alleged contract killers, pointing to potential involvement of additional individuals or family members.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has also intervened, demanding a comprehensive report from the Meghalaya Police within 72 hours. Public outcry continues to grow as chilling details of the case emerge.
As the investigation progresses, Raja Raghuvanshi’s grieving family continues to call for swift justice, insisting that all responsible parties — including those behind the scenes — face the maximum punishment under the law.
