PM Modi on Friday unveiled a slew of development projects worth over ₹48,520 crore in Bihar’s Karakat block, located in Rohtas district. The initiatives aim to boost road, rail, and power infrastructure in the state and improve connectivity across eastern India. The Prime Minister, who arrived in Patna on Thursday for a two-day visit to Bihar, inaugurated several key infrastructure projects, including the four-laning of the Patna–Gaya–Dobhi section of National Highway-22, constructed at a cost of approximately ₹5,520 crore. PM Modi also launched the four-laning of an elevated highway and grade improvements at Gopalganj Town on NH–27, significantly enhancing traffic flow and road safety in the area. Among the rail-related developments, PM Modi dedicated to the nation the third rail line between Son Nagar and Mohammad Ganj, built at a cost of over ₹1,330 crore.
The new rail line is expected to increase the capacity of freight and passenger services along a crucial corridor in Bihar. A major highlight of the event was the laying of the foundation stone for the Stage-II expansion of the Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project in Aurangabad district. With an estimated cost of ₹29,930 crore, the 3×800 MW power project is expected to significantly enhance energy availability and ensure long-term energy security for Bihar and the eastern region of the country. Further bolstering road infrastructure, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for multiple highway projects. These include the four-laning of the Patna–Arrah–Sasaram section of NH-119A, the six-laning of the Varanasi–Ranchi–Kolkata highway (NH-319B), and the Ramnagar–Kacchi Dargah stretch (NH-119D). He also announced the construction of a new bridge over the Ganga river between Buxar and Bharauli, which is expected to improve regional connectivity and reduce travel time significantly. The launch event was attended by Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, several Union ministers, and other senior dignitaries and officials. The development push comes as a major boost to Bihar’s infrastructure and is part of the central government’s broader commitment to transforming eastern India into a hub of growth and connectivity.
