The annual Amarnath Yatra to the sacred cave shrine in Jammu and Kashmir is scheduled to begin on July 3, 2025. In preparation, the central government has approved the deployment of 581 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF)—amounting to nearly 58,000 personnel—to ensure a secure environment for the thousands of pilgrims expected to attend.
The pilgrimage will proceed along its two traditional routes—Pahalgam and Baltal. To support the smooth conduct of the yatra, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has introduced a range of safety and logistical measures. Each registered pilgrim will carry a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) card. This will help authorities monitor movement in real time and respond quickly in case of any emergency.
Pilgrims are covered under a ₹5 lakh insurance policy, and even animals such as ponies that assist in the trek will be insured for ₹50,000. The route will be supported by adequate medical infrastructure including hospital beds, ambulances, and helicopter evacuation services to handle high-altitude medical emergencies.
Authorities are working on widening tracks, easing crowd flow at the cave, and upgrading mobile connectivity along the routes for better communication. Drones and AI-powered surveillance systems will be deployed across key areas to provide real-time monitoring and early detection of any threats.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is understood to have reviewed the overall security arrangements and preparedness for the Amarnath Yatra.
He is also learnt to have emphasized the need for heightened alertness and seamless coordination among all security forces during the yatra period. He directed agencies to work in close sync and be ready for rapid response in case of any potential disruptions, sources said.
