Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday announced that yet another constituent of the separatist Hurriyat Conference, the Jammu and Kashmir Mass Movement, has officially rejected secessionism and pledged allegiance to the Indian Constitution and national unity.
Sharing the development on social media platform X, Home Minister Shah stated, “Under the Modi government, the spirit of unity rules J&K. Another Hurriyat affiliate, Jammu and Kashmir Mass Movement, has rejected separatism and declared complete commitment to the unity of Bharat. I sincerely welcome their move.”

He added that a total of 12 Hurriyat-linked organisations have now distanced themselves from separatist ideology and embraced the constitutional framework of India.
The marked shift away from anti-India activities is a significant outcome of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policy of national integration under the vision of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat. The Home Minister called it a “victory” for the Modi government’s unifying efforts in the region.
Earlier this month, on April 8, three more separatist outfits—Jammu Kashmir Islamic Political Party, Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Democratic League, and Kashmir Freedom Front—had publicly disassociated themselves from the Hurriyat Conference.
This development follows a growing trend that began in March when several other Hurriyat Conference linked groups, including Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement (led by Shahid Saleem), Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Political Movement (headed by advocate Shafi Reshi), and Jammu and Kashmir Freedom Movement (led by Mohd Sharief Sartaj), announced their departure from separatist politics.
Other recent breakaways include Jammu and Kashmir Tahreeqi Isteqlal, led by Ghulam Nabi Sofi, and Jammu and Kashmir Tahreek-I-Istiqaamat, headed by Ghulam Nabi War.
According to the Home Minister, these repeated declarations signify a major ideological shift in Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the declining influence of separatist politics and the growing acceptance of constitutional democracy in the region.
