A Husband from Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district has accused her life of threatening him with murder, citing the reference of the recent Meerut murder case, in which body parts were kept in a drum. The case, videotaped and distributed on social networking sites, involves Junior Engineer Dharmendra Kushwaha, his wife Maya Maurya, and her suspected lover Neeraj Maurya.
Complaints Filed by Both Parties
The police received complaints from both parties on Saturday and have assured appropriate action following an investigation. Kushwaha, employed at Jal Nigam in Gonda, married Maya Maurya from Basti district in 2016.
Allegations of Infidelity and Assault
After the birth of their daughter, Kushwaha purchased three four-wheelers in his wife’s name and paid the installments. He purchased land in 2022 in her name and employed her relative Neeraj Maurya on housebuilding. Maya and Neeraj are said to have developed a relationship during this time, one which intensified following Neeraj’s wife passing away during the Covid-19 pandemic.
On 7 July 2024, Kushwaha alleged that he caught Maya and Neeraj in an objectionable position. When he protested, he was allegedly beaten up, and Maya left the house. Subsequently, on 25 August 2024, Maya allegedly came back with Neeraj, entered the house forcibly, and escaped with a 15-gram gold chain and money. Kushwaha lodged a complaint on 1 September 2024.
Death Threats and Further Assault
On March 29, 2025, Maya allegedly threatened to kill Kushwaha’s mother and, along with Neeraj, assaulted both mother and son. According to Kushwaha’s complaint, Maya warned, “If you say too much, I will get you chopped and packed in a drum like the Meerut massacre.”
Maya’s Counterclaims
Maya has rejected the allegations, charging Kushwaha with harassment and making her have four abortions. She said he attacked her in July 2024, which prompted her to lodge a complaint at the women’s police station. She went on to state that he then initiated a divorce and drove her out of home.
SHO Vivek Trivedi of Kotwali Police Station confirmed that there are several cases of the couple pending in court proceedings.
