In a strong decision, the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sharma informed that Assam has banned all kinds of consumption of beef in the state. Assam has already enacted a law banning the killing of cows three years ago, in 2021. The Assam Cattle Preservation Act of 2021 bans killing and sale of beef in the five kilometer radius of a temple or Vaishnavite monastery and in the areas where Hindus, Jains and Shikhs are in majority.
CM Sarma highlighted that Assam has benefited a lot after the banning of killing of cows.
“We have decided a step further to ban the serving of beef in restaurants, public places and functions. So we have decided to ban the consumption of beef completely in our state from today. First, we had decided to ban the consumption of beef in a radius of five Kilometers of a temple but now we have decided it to expand it to the whole state that there will be no consumption of beef in any community, public, hotel and restaurant, you will not able to eat this in any place. So, what we started three years back, we have expanded it a bit further”, the CM was heard saying in the video uploaded on his X account.

Assam’s Minister Pijush Hazarika said, “I challenged the Assam congress to welcome the beef ban or go and settle in Pakistan.”
It is important to note that Cows are considered sacred in Hindu religion and Indian constitution under the Directive Principles of State Policies provide provisions and power of banning of cattle of importance to the state.
The liberals may start crying giving the lame argument of secularism and constitution but the decision to ban the consumption and serving of beef in Assam is in accordance to safeguard the belief of Hindus, which is legal through the DPSP of constitution.
