British-Egyptian YouTuber and notorious Islamist Mohammed Hijab was recently at the receiving end of online thrashing after he brazenly attempted to appropriate Maths. The incident unfolded when Hijab claimed that “Muslim scholars” made several landmark “inventions” in Mathematics citing Algebra and decimal system to name a few. However, netizens were quick to call him out for falsely crediting “Muslim scholars”. While bashing Mohd Hijab, netizens gave citations to point out fallacy in his overarching and ambitious “invention” claim.

The backdrop

Before moving ahead, let me briefly profile Mohammed Hijab for our readers. Hijab was accused of provoking Islamist mobs in 2022 which led to the infamous Leicester anti-Hindu violence. He has been an apologist of terrorist outfits like Hamas and has also worked with hatemonger Zakir Naik.

Over the years, there has been a constant debate of why there has not been a churn in the Muslim community regarding the paucity of advanced research work, progress in the academic, especially – STEM – Scientific, Technical, Engineering and Mathematics domain. In the recent episode, an X user sparked this debate afresh asking, “Can you name an invention made by a Muslim that changed the world?”

Replying to X username, @Radigenoa, Hijab brazenly attempted to pass on the credit of inventing several Mathematical concepts like Algebra and decimal systems.

A boastful Mohd. Hijab had written, “Delete this before you embarrass yourself further. The algebra running your device? Al-Khwarizmi. The decimal system you can’t think without? Muslim scholars. Ignorance this loud is almost impressive.”

While the Islamist would have hoped for echochamber validation and praise for highlighting the major inventions of Muslim scholars, a section of netizens lashed him out. Giving citations, they also fact checked the ambitious assertion that Al-Khwarizmi invented Algebra. Several netizens including posts by prominent X handles who are renowned for their well-researched take on History and academic fields like Savitri Mumukshu and True Indology fact checked the claim as “False”.

NO, “Muslim scholars” didn’t “invent” key Mathematical concepts

Firstly, the academic interest of these so-called Muslim scholars should be praised, if at all, it was not aimed at stealing knowledge. Nonetheless, prominent X handles categorically noted that the said Muslim scholars were merely translators who copied/plagiarised these concepts from the Hindu community.

On both counts – Algebra and Decimal System, the notorious Islamist, Mohammad Hijab ended up egging his face as contrary to his bold claim, the concepts were NOT invented by “Muslim scholars”.

Following this, Hijab faced backlash from netizens who criticized him for sharing inaccurate information, pointing out that it was Indians, particularly Hindus, who pioneered algebra and the decimal system.

Sankrant Sanu, the Founder of the Garuda Prakashan, wrote that the book where Muslim scholars presented Algebra and decimal system was itself named Hisab Al-Hind that roughly translates to mathematics of India and that Al Khwarizimi did nothing but translate Algebra and decimal system from Hindus.

Al Khwarizimi’s book is called Hisab Al Hind, mathematics of India.

He just copied and translated algebra and the decimal system, just like you have nothing original.

Even then he made errors, didn’t even understand negative numbers.

— Sankrant Sanu सानु संक्रान्त ਸੰਕ੍ਰਾਂਤ ਸਾਨੁ (@sankrant) November 27, 2024

Other twitter users also highlighted the fact that Al Khwarizimi was a mere translator.

He was only a translator
Name is his book was al-hindi ( addition and subtraction in Hind arithmetic)

Which simply means he was a translator and introduced Indian arithmetic to Europe

— decodingmyroots.com – नित्यकर्म सर्वोपरि (@MonaADhar) November 27, 2024

I knew this would come up.

Al Khwazirimi himself acknowledges that he is merely a translator of the Maths from Al Hind (India).

Don’t steal credits. https://t.co/UE3Wi7bL7s

— Jambavan (@SirJambavan) November 26, 2024

Mind you, the ones who discredited the bold claim of Muslim scholars inventing Mathematics concepts were not limited to Indians but from outside India as well.

Also Read: The Genius of Vedic Math and how it was erased from the lives of Indians

Strikingly, non-Indians too came up reiterating the same point. One twitter user (username- @warrenkimmel) wrote that the fact that Indians invented ‘Algebra’ and “numerals” could be seen through the upper hand they have on Mathematics till date”.

Nah Mo. nah nah nah. Indians came up with algebra and ‘Arabic’ numerals. To this day they are crazy good at math. See makes sense. Muslims were only super good at death doom and destruction. Just like now.
Try again.

— Warren (@warrenkimmel) November 26, 2024

Vishnu Bhavaraju tried to educate Hijab regarding the origins of Algebra. He mentioned that the Hindu-Arabic numeral system, consisting of 10 symbols (0–9) used in the decimal system, originated in India in the 6th or 7th century.

Persian mathematician Al-Khwārizmī introduced these numerals and computational techniques to the Islamic world through books like Kitāb al-ḥisāb al-hindī (“The Book of Indian Computation”). His work, based on knowledge gained during his travels to India, played a key role in spreading Indian mathematical concepts, including the decimal positional system and the use of zero, to Europe. Europeans later referred to this field as “Algebra,” which were foundational in advancing modern mathematics.

What we know today as Hindu-Arabic numerals, set of 10 symbols—1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0—that represent numbers in the decimal number system. They originated in India in the 6th or 7th century and were introduced to Europe through the writings of Middle Eastern mathematicians,…

— Vishnu Bhavaraju (విష్ణు మూర్తి భావరాజు) (@vmurthy77) November 27, 2024

While the Islamist cabal continues to further concocted ‘invention’ theory to appropriate Maths and continue to drag the debate to date, click here to read more on this expose — Al-Khwarizmi was NOT the Father/Inventor of Algebra.

Who is Mohammed Hijab?

Mohammed Hijab is a British-Egyptian YouTuber and Islamist influencer who incited violence against Hindus in Leicester in September 2022. Following clashes after an India-Pakistan cricket match, Hijab led groups of masked Islamists and made derogatory remarks against Hindus. Videos surfaced of him mocking Hinduism, threatening Hindus and inciting Muslim mobs to “teach Hindus a lesson.” He posted videos of these “Muslim patrols” on social media, boasting about instilling fear in the Hindu community.

Hijab has been an apologist of terrorist outfit Hamas. He even justified the October 7, 2023, terrorist attack by Hamas where thousands of innocent Israeli citizens lost their lives. He categorized the terrorist attack as “resistance”.

Mohammed Hijab is also known for peddling fake news according to his agenda. After the Al-Ahli hospital explosion in Gaza on October 17, 2023, Hijab blamed Israel, despite evidence showing the incident was caused by a failed rocket launched from Gaza.

Mohammed Hijab’s respect for women is questionable since in a social media post, he once suggested that non-Muslim women preferred being taken as “sex slaves” during medieval wars. Hijab has also worked with hatemonger fugitive and Islamist preacher Zakir Naik in raising funds for a mosque and Dawah center in Oslo, Norway.
