An explosion was reported in Delhi’s Prashant Vihar neighborhood on Thursday. The blast occurred outside the premises of a sweet shop near PVR multiplex. Police and emergency services were dispatched to the location immediately after the incident, which was reported at approximately 11:48 a.m. One person was reported to be injured in the blast. The NSG and NIA are investigating the shocking incident.
In order to ensure everyone’s safety, the police immediately roped off the area and began investigating the source of the explosion. Fire tenders were also sent, and four firefighters rushed to the scene. Locals were in a panic after the explosion, which led to the temporary closure of the stores nearby, although no serious damage to the adjoining buildings was reported.
The National Security Guard (NSG) and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams arrived at the spot to help conduct investigations. Sniffer dogs have also been deployed. Delhi Police PRO, Additional Commissioner of Police Sanjay Kumar Tyagi, said, “One person sustained minor injuries. Police teams and other specialised staff—special cell, forensics, and other units—are at the spot. The cause of the explosion is being ascertained. As of now, there is no suspect. The person with minor injuries was discharged after treatment.”
In the aftermath of the blast, the local police, bomb detection units and forensic teams began analyzing a ‘white powder’ like substance that has been found at the site. The discovery of the particular substance is being scrutinized to understand whether it might have been linked to a crude bomb. This blast is the latest as a similar incident was reported in the region on October 20, when a blast occurred at the CRPF school wall in Prashant Vihar. However, that particluar incident caused no injury. Authorities are now looking into whether both incidents could be related.
Currently, the police are trying to establish whether the explosion was a result of foul play or an accidental detonation. The event has sent shock waves in the local community, and it is being investigated to know the exact events that transpired.
