After killing Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah by bombing his hideout in Beirut of Lebanon, Israel has targeted another senior commander of the terror organization – Hashem Safieddine.
Safieddine is widely regarded as the successor of Nasrallah.
However, there has been no confirmation on the reported attack from either side, they said, adding that no official statement either from Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) or the Hezbollah has come on the issue.
The reports quoting sources said Israeli Air Force hit Beirut at on the intervening of Thursday-Friday with an intense barrage of airstrikes, while Safieddine was in a meeting of senior Hezbollah officials.
The strike was one of the heaviest in the area since Nasrallah was killed.
The air strike by Israel was far bigger than the one they carried out to eliminate the Hezbollah chief a few days ago.
The number of possible casualties was not known yet.
Hashem Safieddine is a designated terrorist and holds a significant role in Hezbollah’s political affairs.
He is a member of the group’s Jihad Council, which manages its military operations.
A cousin brother of Nasrallah, Safieddine, was generally considered the ‘number two’ in Hezbollah. He also has close relations with the Iranian regime.
He was appointed by Nasrallah to various influential positions within Hezbollah.
Safieddine, the reports said, has also been a spokesperson for the group on multiple occasions.
He was designated as a terrorist in 2017 by the US State Department in 2017, and also by Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, according to reports, another senior Hezbollah official, Mohammed Anisi, involved in the group’s development of precision guided missiles, was killed in a recent airstrike in Beirut.
