The Congress government in Karnataka is facing serious allegations of neglecting the development of an area in an apparent display of political retribution. According to reports, the Deputy CM DK Shivakumar released a list of assembly constituencies in the BBMP region that received a sum of Rs 10 crore each, but the name of Jayanagar constituency was conspicuously missing from the list. Notably, BJP MLA CK Ramamurthy is the public representative of the constituency.
Each constituency has been allotted Rs 10 crore to work upon issues like road and park maintenance. As Jayanagar was the only constituency that was excluded from the list, MLA CK Ramamurthy and BJP State President BY Vijayendra cornered the Congress government in the state and raised several questions.
BY Vijayendra remarked “Engaging in politics isn’t wise at a time when we need to work together, beyond party lines, to tackle the challenges of addressing the recent heavy rains in Bangalore, repairing potholes, and improving basic infrastructure.”
He also took to social media platform X to write “Dropping Jayanagara from the list of Assembly raises suspicion on step motherly treatment by Mr. Shivakumar as the constituency has elected representatives from the BJP.”
The allocation, totaling Rs 265 crore, was made due to deteriorating road conditions, worsened by recent heavy rainfall that damaged infrastructure across Bengaluru, especially in northern areas and IT hubs like Mahadevapura and Sarjapura Road. A senior BBMP official suggested the exclusion of Jayanagar may have been an oversight and clarified that the order would be revised for fairness.
The Karnataka Congress is under fire, facing mounting allegations linked to a series of land scams. Reports suggest that top Congress officials are allegedly involved in illicit land dealings, drawing public outrage.
The Congress party and its senior leaders are already under intense pressure from the opposition and facing legal issues due to the MUDA scam, which implicates CM Siddaramaiah. Allegations center on the allocation of 5 acres of land to a trust managed by family members of party President Mallikarjun Kharge, involving accusations of “power misuse”.
