To curb the rising incidents of spitting and mixing of urine in eatables and to ensure safer standards and accountability in the food industry in Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath government is all set to introduce two ordinances in this connection.
Prevention of False and Anti-Harmony Activities and Spitting Prohibition Ordinance 2024 and the UP Prevention of Contamination in Food (Consumer Right to Know) Ordinance 2024 are the two proposed ordinances that are aimed to establish strict penalties for those found tampering with food, including spitting or other unsanitary practices.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is expected to meet with top officials of his administration, including the Additional Chief Secretary for Home Affairs, the Law Officer, to finalize the ordinances, reports said.
What led to this development ?
The move is aimed to strengthen consumer protections and enhance food safety across Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state of India.
The recent incidents involving individuals contaminating food with bodily fluids have forced the UP government to come up with these measures.

A video went viral last month showing a teenager spitting on rotis in Saharanpur. The incident led to the arrest of the eatery’s owner.
Similarly, two men were detained in UP’s Noida for contaminating juice with urine, and a vendor in Ghaziabad district of the state was arrested for allegedly mixing his spit in fruit juice.
Seeing disturbing reports, CM Adityanath expressed his disgust at such practices during a high-level meeting last month and termed the practice a violation of public trust.
Following the incidents, the Chief Minister also made display of name and address of operators, proprietors and managers at all food establishments.
The reports say, the ordinances would be rolled out soon, with severe penalties for those found guilty of food contamination.
