The recent turmoil in Israel, triggered by a dastardly attack from Hamas, has sent shockwaves throughout the world. The harrowing images emerging from the heart of the conflict leave no room for doubt about the need to eliminate this terrorist organization once and for all. Israel, steadfast in its determination, is ready to confront this threat head-on. However, amidst this tense situation, a surprising development has emerged: a united opposition that has chosen to stand firmly behind Benjamin Netanyahu’s administration, no matter the cost.
In a remarkable departure from the usual political bickering, Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid has not only refrained from criticizing the ruling government but has also offered his full support. Lapid has conveyed his readiness to establish an emergency unity government to oversee the war effort. This unexpected show of unity is a testament to the seriousness of the situation.

Adding to this display of solidarity, former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has joined the reserve forces, prepared to take offensive action if the need arises. It is moments like these that make us ponder: could we ever witness such unity in our own nation, Bharat?
The answer, is both Yes and NO. History offers glimpses of such unity during trying times. For instance, during the 1962 and 1971 wars, despite criticisms of the government’s handling of the situations, the opposition, led by the Bharatiya Jan Sangh (now Bharatiya Janata Party), rallied behind the government. They pledged their full support and assistance in the war efforts, putting the nation above partisan interests.
In a lesser-known episode of protest and unity, when the Chinese attacked our consulate in Beijing before the Nathu La and Cho La clashes, a young Atal Bihari Vajpayee led the opposition in a unique form of protest. They surrounded the Chinese embassy in New Delhi, with Vajpayee at the forefront, herding a flock of sheep as a symbolic protest against the Chinese Communist Party and its followers.
Moreover, recent events like the revocation of Article 370 have shown that there are political parties in Bharat capable of, at the very least, maintaining neutrality during times of crisis, if not outrightly supporting the current government, should a situation akin to Israel’s ever arise.
However, this cannot be said for the congregation of opportunists led by the Congress party. In the backdrop of the Kargil War, Congress spared no effort in belittling the armed forces and labeling their victory as a mere political gain for the BJP. Adding insult to injury, Congress discontinued the celebration of “Kargil Vijay Diwas” after coming to power in 2004, cynically labeling the war as “BJP’s war.”
It is evident that Congress, along with its sycophants, holds a deep-seated antipathy toward our soldiers on the front lines. Their demands for proof of surgical strikes against Pakistani forces and the spreading of rumors about Chinese incursions after the Galwan clash underscore their lack of unity when it comes to matters of national security.

In contrast to the unity witnessed in Israel during these critical times, the prospect of achieving a similar level of solidarity in Bharat appears exceedingly slim, if not impossible, due to the fragmented and opportunistic approach of some political factions.
The recent events in Israel highlight the importance of unity in the face of adversity. The willingness of Israeli political leaders to set aside their differences and unite for the greater good serves as a valuable lesson for nations worldwide. While Bharat has seen moments of unity during crises in the past, the fragmented nature of its political landscape presents challenges in achieving the level of unity witnessed in Israel. Nonetheless, the need for such unity in times of crisis remains a crucial aspiration for any nation aspiring to safeguard its security and sovereignty.
